The Commanders are sending a second and fourth-round pick in the draft, and the Texans are giving back a fourth-round pick and Tunsil. This is a massive deal for Washington, as they heavily invest in protection for their star rookie.

This is the second blockbuster trade that Tunsil has been a part of in his career. The star offensive lineman was drafted No. 13 overall in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins.
After a stellar three seasons with the team, he was sent to the Texans for two first-round picks, a second-round pick, Johnson Bademosi, and Julien Davenport. Though the trade seemed crazy on the Dolphins' part, they walked away with massive draft capital.
Tunsil would spend the next six seasons with the Texans, picking up Pro Bowl nods in 2019, 2020, 2022-2024. He is arguably one of the best offensive tackles in the game.
There were rumors that Tunsil was going to be moved, though nothing had been concrete until now. The Commanders are not only securing one of the best offensive linemen in the game, but they are ensuring that Daniels is well-protected heading into the 2025 season.
The Commanders shocked the NFL world by securing a 12-5 record and nearly making it to the Super Bowl. They were handily beaten by the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship, but Washington made a ton of noise in the postseason.
Daniels would go on to win Rookie of the Year, and the team has tons of upside with Dan Quinn as head coach. Kliff Kingsbury is also remaining as the offensive coordinator and has another year to work alongside Daniels.
The Commanders are going to be tough to deal with in 2025, and adding Tunsil is going to also ensure that Daniels can still sling the ball, he can rattle off rushing yards, the run game is still explosive, and the entire offensive evolves in a big way.
Tunsil is a hugely impactful player, and he will now be responsible for protecting Daniels and opening up run lanes. This is a massive signing by the Commanders.
