Cowboys Reportedly Not 'In the Mix' For Cooper Kupp

The NFL was shocked to learn that the Los Angeles Rams were set to trade star wide receiver, Cooper Kupp. Though Kupp saw a down year in 2024, he was expected to garner plenty of interest.

There are plenty of receiver-needy teams in the league, one being the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys have longed for a strong receiver to line up next to CeeDee Lamb, but it appears that person will not be Kupp.

According to Jane Slater, "I realize there is a lot of talk about Cooper Kupp and #Cowboys. A source informed tells me 'not in the mix right now.'"

Though there have been plenty of reports that the Cowboys could be interested in the Rams star, it appears that the team is not going to be targeting Kupp.

It makes sense that the Cowboys would not want to take a flier on Kupp. As stated, his production has dipped in recent years. Following his 2021 All-Pro season where he led the league in 145 receptions, 1,947 yards, and 16 touchdowns, Kupp has not secured 1,000 yards since.

Kupp brought in 812 yards in 2022, 737 yards in 2023, and 710 yards in 2024. The result of the dip in production is due to the multiple injuries that the receiver has faced the last three seasons.

Through the 2022 to 2024 seasons, Kupp appeared in 33 games. He has missed a total of 18 games in the span. Though he is still a viable WR2 option for teams, his injury concerns are enough to put off most teams.

It could also be the Rams are asking too much for Kupp, and the Cowboys are not willing to pay the price to bring in a receiver who has this many injury concerns.

Dallas just recently signed KaVontae Turpin to a three-year, $18 million contract, but Turpin is more of a special teams ace than he is a true starting receiver. The position will need to be addressed in further free agency signings or the draft.

The Cowboys notably were quiet in 2024 during free agency, but that has not been the case thus far for owner Jerry Jones.

Cowboys free agency additions so far:

  • RB Javonte Williams (one year, $3 million)
  • G Robert Jones (one year, $4.5 million)
  • DT Solomon Thomas (two years, $8 million)
  • LS Trent Sieg (three years, $4.45 million)
  • S Markquese Bell (three years, $9 million)
  • S Juanyeh Thomas (one year, $1.03 million)
  • DE Tyrus Wheat (one year, $1.03 million)
  • G Brock Hoffman (one year, $1.1 million)
  • CB C.J. Goodwin (one year, $1.225 million)
  • DT Osa Odighizuwa (four years, $80 million)

Sieg, Bell, Thomas, Wheat, Hoffman, Goodwin, and Odighizuwa were on the team in 2024 but were pending free agents.

The Cowboys are likely to add a free-agent receiver, but it won't be Kupp.
