The Miami Dolphins were sitting pretty with a staggering 11 draft picks to work within the 2025 NFL Draft. The team had been awarded four compensatory picks, which are picks awarded to teams that lose players, coaches, and executives to other teams.

The Dolphins lost Raekwon Davis; DeShon Elliott; Robert Hunt; Brandon Jones; Andrew Van Ginkel; and Christian Wilkins in 2023, and were awarded the picks due to this. However, that number has since been adjusted.
The NFL Management Council has informed clubs of a recalculation to the 2025 compensatory picks, awarding the #Saints a seventh-round selection, removing a seventh from the #Dolphins and sliding back the #Browns and #Chargers sevenths by one pick.

According to Tom Pelissero, "The NFL Management Council has informed clubs of a recalculation to the 2025 compensatory picks, awarding the #Saints a seventh-round selection, removing a seventh from the #Dolphins and sliding back the #Browns and #Chargers sevenths by one pick."
The Dolphins have now lost a seventh-round compensatory pick, which will drop the total to 10. Despite losing a seventh-rounder, having double-digit draft picks is never a bad thing.

Miami can use those picks to either draft 10 new players or use the picks to combo into a deal that will lead them to move up in the draft. Considering the Dolphins have seen more players exit the team like offensive lineman Rob Jones, safety Jevon Holland, and linebacker Anthony Walker Jr., the team will need to draft some young talent to replace those players.
The Dolphins came into free agency with one of the lowest totals in terms of cap space, and the team has had to bank on lower-end cheaper free agents like safety Ifeatu Melifonwu and offensive tackle Larry Borom.
Despite the lower cap space, the team also landed some significant free agents like quarterback Zach Wilson and wide receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine. General Manager Chris Grier will have plenty of work to do in terms of filling up the trenches, and having 10 picks is going to do a lot to accomplish that.
Granted, having 11 picks would have been better, but losing a seventh-round selection is nowhere near as detrimental as losing a pick in the third or fourth round.
The Dolphins also chose to retain Grier after there was widespread belief that he would be relieved of his duties following the conclusion of the 2024 season. With Grier returning, he will need to ensure he lands some stars in the draft, or 2025 could be his final season.
