How Evan Engram Transforms Broncos Offense With Bo Nix

The Denver Broncos have had a strong offseason so far, starting with adding two former 49ers players to their defense in linebacker Dre Greenlaw and safety Talanoa Hufanga. Their already strong defense seemingly got stronger.

However, at the start of the official free agency period today, they added tight end Evan Engram to the mix, a great acquisition to an offense in need of playmakers.

While Engram is on the older side at 30 years old, his two-year deal with the Broncos after getting cut by the Jacksonville Jaguars, depending on the price, seems like a great acquisition for the offense.

Sean Payton mentioned before he was in need of a joker to help run a more dynamic offense, and Engram could fit that bill.

Just two seasons ago, Engram had a career year, putting up 114 receptions on 143 for 963 yards. He has never been a huge vertical threat or red zone option, but his athleticism and mismatch ability at the tight end position make him a great security blanket for Bo Nix.

Sean Payton has helped tight ends have fantastic seasons in the past, with Jimmy Graham coming to mind back when Payton coached the New Orleans Saints.

That means Engram could be in store for another career year, especially with his biggest target competition for now being Courtland Sutton and some less proven youngsters like Marvin Mims Jr., Devaughn Vele, and Troy Franklin. Engram could be at the heart of a prolific offense.

Tight end was a huge need for the Broncos entering this offseason, with many draft experts mocking the Broncos to take Tyler Warren or Colston Loveland at pick No. 20 in the NFL draft.

However, that seems almost certain to not happen now with the addition of Engram as the Broncos brass will likely address other more pressing needs unless Payton wants to run more two-tight-end sets.

The Broncos are starting to build a scary roster that could challenge the Chiefs for the top of the AFC West. If they continue to build out the offense, Bo Nix and Co could become a scary offense, with Engram being a big part of that.

While there is more work to do, this acquisition of Engram seems to be the starting point for building a potentially prolific offense. If the team could draft a top running back in the draft, such as Heisman runner-up Ashton Jeanty, their offense would challenge for best in the league.
