The Detroit Lions are making massive moves on the defensive side of the ball, as the team has landed D.J. Reed on a three-year, $48 million deal.

Reed was one of the most sought-after corners and free agents on the market, and he now lands with the Lions. This could help to rebuild and prevent the team from facing such devastating losses as they did on the defensive side of the ball in 2024.

Reed was being targeted by multiple teams, though he lands with an immediate contender in the Lions. Detroit still managed to make it to the playoffs despite dealing with the staggering number of players on the IR.

Instead of dealing with a 2025 season that is chock full of injuries, the Lions are making moves to ensure they have a solid defensive unit heading into the new season. They certainly did that by landing Reed.

Reed ended the 2024 season with 64 total tackles and 11 passes defended. Despite not landing any interceptions, he was one of the best corners during the season.

Reed also only gave up a 57.1 completing percentage and 87.1 passer rating to opposing quarterbacks. He did surrender two touchdowns, but that is not a number that should raise any questions about the quality of cover he provides.

The Lions got themselves a massive land with Reed, as he can now shore up the secondary alongside Terrion Arnold.

Detroit may have lost in the Divisional Round of the playoffs, but they are still favored to make it far in 2025. They can do so by ensuring they have a strong defense to work with. Landing a quality player like Reed is one big step in the right direction for the team.

The Lions posted a 15-2 record and limped into the playoffs, and were dispatched by the Washington Commanders 45-31. Following the loss, head coach Dan Campbell spoke to reporters with clear heartbreak in his eyes and voice.

Though the Lions appeared only to be a few pieces from winning it all, there is no doubt that they are still one of the teams to look out for in 2025. There are going to be more signings and draft pickups to consider, but adding Reed gives the team a massive leg up on their secondary.
