Packers Have Reached Out to Former Pro Bowl Quarterback Amid Jordan Love Injury

During the opening Friday game of the NFL season, Green Bay Packers star quarterback Jordan Love went down with an injury. It was feared that he tore his ACL but after scans came back, it showed only an MCL strain.

This was about as good of news as the Packers could have hoped for, but Love will miss some time. Green Bay was seen as a potential Super Bowl contender entering the NFL season so this is a significant blow to their overall chances.

However, it seems the Packers might be looking to bring in a veteran starter in the absence of Love. According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Green Bay has reportedly reached out to veteran quarterback Ryan Tannehill about a return.

Russini is reporting that no deal is in place as of now.

Earlier on Sunday, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that Tannehill was looking to make a comeback but only for a team that he believed could win. The Packers certainly would fit that bill and Tannehill could help them get by with Love out.

"What would it take for him to leave his family and go play one more season? Essentially, the perfect opportunity," Rapoport writes. "Sources say it would take a playoff contender in need of a quarterback, a team with a strong offensive line and offensive weapons. The money also would have to be right."

Tannehill also spoke earlier this offseason, saying he isn't looking to come back but if the right opportunity presented itself, he would take it.

"Maybe a guy goes down and a team gives me a call, you never know what's going to happen, right?" Tannehill said in July. "So, just keeping the options open. But at the same time, not waiting on pins and needles for that call. I'm enjoying where I'm at. ... where my family, life is. You know, if something comes up, then fantastic. I'll jump wholeheartedly into it. But at the same time, not purely just waiting on that."

The former Pro Bowl signal-caller spent last season with the Tennesee Titans but was benched midway through the year. He went 3-5 during his eight starts but performed well in the final two games of the season after Will Levis went down with injury.

Green Bay could do a lot worse than Tannehill but it remains to be seen if the veteran will jump on board with the cheeseheads.
