The Green Bay Packers were dealt a heavy hand on Sunday when quarterback Jordan Love was injured during the waning seconds of the fourth quarter. Love fell to the ground after a tackle and was favoring his knee.

A further diagnosis revealed Love suffered an MCL injury, though it was not season-ending. In fact, it appeared that Love was attempting to make his way back to starting this week. However, that will likely not be the case.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur spoke to reporters today, updating everyone on Love's status. Unfortunately, the signal caller missed a second straight practice, which already puts his Week 2 playing status in doubt.

"He's [Love] going to do everything he can to be out there. We'll give him the week," LaFleur said at his press conference.

Despite Love wanting to push past his injury and play for the Packers on Sunday, it might be better to allow him to rest an additional week. Love may have avoided significant damage to his MCL, but that doesn't mean he can't make things far worse if he plays on Sunday.

Should Love be ruled out for Week 2, the Packers will rely on Malik Willis. LaFleur revealed that Love has been using every opportunity to coach up Willis should he be starting on Sunday.

Willis spent the 2022 and 2022 seasons with the Tennesee Titans after he was drafted No. 86 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Willis was meant to be the successor for Ryan Tannehill and had opportunities to lock in the job during his rookie season. However, he was rough in his initial debut. He would make his pro debut in Week 2 of the 2022 NFL season after Tannehill was benched in the third quarter but only completed one of the four passes he threw. His final stats for the game were six passing yards and 16 rushing yards.

Willis got another chance in Week 8 and was named the starter as Tannehill was ruled out due to illness. He ended the game 6-for-10 for 55 yards and one interception.

The Packers might be a bit worried that Willis is at the helm this Sunday given his limited experience as a starter. That could also be why Love is angling to make his way back to start, but it would be better to allow his injury to subside more.

Most teams start slow at the beginning of the season and now would be the time for the team to absorb another loss for Love to fully heal.
