The Green Bay Packers just received some excellent news ahead of their Week 5 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.

Packers wide receiver Christian Watson appears to have avoided a severe ankle injury.

Senior NFL insider Jordan Schultz shared that Watson has a mild high ankle sprain and is unlikely to be placed on injured reserve.

Watson suffered the injury in their Week 4 loss to their division rival, the Minnesota Vikings. The three-year wide receiver was injured on a pass over the middle late in the first quarter that was intercepted by the Vikings. He got to the sideline on his own and was then carted to the locker room.

Kamu Grugier-Hill of the Vikings intercepted a pass from Jordan Love and dove for the ball as Watson's left foot got trapped underneath Grugier-Hill.

Head coach Matt LaFleur said that Watson would be out on Monday for at least a week.

"I think we'll know more in the next couple days," LaFleur said. "I would assume he'd be out most likely at least a week or so."

Initially, it was reported that Watson could end up on the IR, but that does not appear to be the case anymore.

Nonetheless, it is likely that Watson will miss this week's matchup against the Rams on the road. The 25-year-old has struggled mightily through the first four games of the span. Through four games, Watson has recorded five receptions on eight targets for 80 yards, one touchdown, and an average of 16.0 yards per reception.

Prior to exiting the game on Sunday, Watson only had one target with no yards or receptions.

It was Love's first game back from an MCL sprain, and somehow, he only missed two games. While he got off to a slow start, he was responsible for the comeback that fell short on Sunday.

In his return, he completed 32 of his 54 pass attempts for a completion percentage of 59.3 percent, four touchdowns, and three interceptions.

Love's return wasn't the prettiest, but he was close to completing a comeback for the ages. The Packers were down 28-0 at one point and lost the game 31-29.

Although Love wasn't as polished as he'd like, LaFleur said it would take some time for him to get back to where he was.

"I just think it's, any time you are in a rhythm and you're practicing every day and you're going out and playing, and then you stop doing that for a period of time, it takes you a minute to get your groove back."

The Packers will likely be without Watson for the first time this season.
