The Green Bay Packers have released the status for starting quarterback Jordan Love for their Week 2 matchup with the Indianapolis Colts. Love suffered an MCL injury and he has been expected to miss some time.

The injury isn't season-ending and Love is expected back at some point. But for Week 2, he is officially being listed as doubtful for the game.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the news of his status.

Love was expected to miss this game but this is still the official word of his diagnosis. That said, it's a good sign that he hasn't been completely ruled out for the game.

He has emerged as one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL, leading the Packers to a playoff berth last season. Love threw for 4,159 yards with 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Love earned a massive contract extension from the Packers after his play last season, signing a four-year, $220 million deal. He is tied with the Packers for the foreseeable future, so his long-term health is of the utmost importance.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur spoke about Love and said he would try to be out there.

"He's [Love] going to do everything he can to be out there. We'll give him the week," LaFleur said at his press conference.

Love may be able to come back sooner rather than later but for now, Green Bay will rely on former third-round draft pick Malik Willis. Willis takes over for Love and is being tasked with helping one of the better teams in the league stay afloat in the NFC.

Willis threw one incomplete pass and was sacked to end the game against the Eagles. He played in three games for the Tennesee Titans last season, throwing for 74 yards with zero touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs hyped up Willis before Week 2.

"I love Malik. I'm glad he's here," Doubs said. "With him being here, playing ball with us, for us, I really think our best foot forward is just being there for him and just making sure he knows we got his back."

If Willis can put together a decent enough game, the Packers have enough talent to win without Love. Avoiding another loss would be massive for Green Bay, but Willis will need to prove he belongs in the league.
