The Carolina Panthers and star defensive tackle Milton Williams have reportedly agreed to a deal. The numbers on the deal aren't known at this time but Williams was expected to be one of the bigger names off the board in free agency.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported the news on social media.

Williams is coming off winning a Super Bowl title with the Philadelphia Eagles so he will be bringing championship experience to the table. The star defender posted 24 total tackles and five sacks for the Eagles last season.

This is a massive get for the Panthers as they look to completely transform their defensive unit. This signing comes right after Carolina locked up star cornerback Jaycee Horn to a historic extension.

Putting Williams alongside Derrick Brown now gives Carolina one of the best defensive tackle units in the NFL. Opposing offenses will likely have a very tough time running the ball against the Panthers this coming season.

Brown will be coming off a bad meniscus injury that he suffered in Week 1 of this past season so this could also be an insurance signing for Carolina. The Panthers signed Brown to a massive four-year, $96 million extension before the 2024 season so the defensive tackle position seems to be a priority for this regime.

Williams was originally drafted in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Eagles. The former Louisiana Tech product has built himself into one of the better defensive tackles around the NFL.

The addition of Williams shows the urgency with which Carolina wants to contend. They likely see an opening in the NFC South and want to at least attempt to take advantage of that fact.

Williams should give this team a nice boost as they try to turn things around. The Panthers are coming off a 5-12 season that saw them heavily underperform.

But the team is confident that they can be competitive this coming year and they have been active this offseason to make that happen.
