The Las Vegas Raiders pulled off one of the biggest free agent gets, as they acquired Geno Smith from the Seattle Seahawks in a blockbuster trade. Now, the team is betting big on Smith, as they have awarded him a massive two-year extension.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Smith landed a two-year, $85.5 million extension that includes a guaranteed $65.5 million. Though Smith has had his struggles with Seattle, the Raiders believe that he could be their franchise quarterback for the foreseeable future.

Smith spent the last five seasons with the Seahawks, compiling 12,961 yards, 76 touchdowns, 36 interceptions, and a 68.5 completion percentage. Despite being one of the most sacked quarterbacks in 2024, he also secured 4,320 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions.
Granted, having that many interceptions is never a good sign, but Smith was under constant duress due to the poor offensive line that the Seahawks had. According to statmuse, Smith was sacked a third-highest 50 times.
Smith still putting together a 4,000 passing-yard season while being sacked 50 times is quite impressive, and likely a big reason why the Raiders made a strong push to land him.
Las Vegas was in dire need of a proven veteran, and it appeared they would likely forego drafting a quarterback in the first round of the playoffs. The team had been heavily involved in attempting to land Sam Darnold, but he chose instead to sign with the Seahawks.
The Raiders then made a move for Smith, sending over a third-round pick to land the veteran. Initially, he was not given an extension, though it was believed he would get one.
Las Vegas has now come through in fine style for Smith, signing him through the next three seasons. The hope is that the Raiders have the right kind of offensive line to protect Smith to allow him to have another successful season in the AFC West.
Smith will lead an offense that has former Miami Dolphins star Raheem Mostert at running back, and receivers Jakobi Meyers, Tre Tucker, and Kyle Phillips. The Raiders also have perennial tight end Brock Bowers, who broke multiple rookie records.
Smith should do well to elevate the Raiders' offense, and the team is likely to target a young receiver in the draft to add more weapons to Smith's arsenal.
