The Seattle Seahawks needed to swing big on a wide receiver after the team cut Tyler Lockett and traded DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Seahawks have now done that by adding former Los Angeles Rams star Cooper Kupp. The star receiver has signed a three-year, $45 million deal.

Kupp is slated to become Sam Darnold's biggest target alongside Jaxon Smith-Njigba. The hope would be that Kupp's injury concerns are behind him.

Kupp only appeared in 12 games in the 2024 season due to an ankle sprain that kept him out of five games total.

Despite Kupp only playing in 12 games in 2024, he secured 710 yards and six touchdowns. When healthy, he is one of the best route runners in the league.

Kupp spent his entire eight-season career with the Rams. He has totaled 7,776 yards, 57 touchdowns, and a 10.6 yards per catch average.

The Rams were hoping to find a trade partner for Kupp, but that did not happen. Their draft price might have been too steep, or teams were just waiting for him to be released.

After free agency began to kick off, the Rams officially released Kupp. He was set to make around $20 million in 2025, and Los Angeles wanted to avoid that counting on against their cap, so they released their former star veteran.

The Seahawks are likely hoping that Kupp can play in all 17 games, which is a feat he has not done since 2021. In that season, the star pass catcher nailed the triple crown, leading the league with 145 receptions, 1,947 yards, and 16 touchdowns.

Kupp's production has dipped every season since, which has everything to do with his injury issues. Despite that, he remains one of the best receivers in the league when healthy.

The Seahawks have been busy in free agency, most notably signing Darnold. With a new quarterback and star receiver, this offense is going to be far different.

One of the biggest issues that Seattle will have to address is their offensive line. Geno Smith was sacked 50 times in 2024, and the offense was deeply affected by the lack of protection for Smith.

If the Seahawks can improve their line, Darnold and Kupp could become a dangerous combination.
