UPDATE:

According to Adam Schefter, the Steelers are sending the Seahawks a second-round pick, and swapping sixth and seventh-rounders in the trade.

The trade details have yet to be divulged, but the Steelers are awarding Metcalf a new massive five-year, $150 million deal.

The NFL world was shocked when Metcalf announced that he was requesting a trade from the Seahawks. This led to the team also revealing they would grant the request.

Oddly enough, the Seahawks had just cut Tyler Lockett. With Metcalf now heading to the Steelers, Seattle is left with Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Jake Bobo, and Dareke Young.

Metcalf is going to become the lead receiver next to George Pickens, giving the Steelers a massive one-two punch in the receiving department. The issue now is who the team plans to keep at quarterback.

Pittsburgh can choose to keep either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields, but the belief is they will not keep both. Both showed flashes of brilliance in 2024, with Fields posting a 4-2 record before he was replaced by Wilson.

Wilson suffered a calf injury in training camp, leading to him having to miss the beginning of the season. Despite Fields' strong start, he was sat in lieu of Wilson taking over.

The Steelers were on a tear with Wilson behind center, but they began to lose multiple games at the tail end of the season and into the playoffs. They were eliminated in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs by the Baltimore Ravens.

Now, the Steelers will have an important decision to make at quarterback, especially now that the team has secured one of the biggest wide receivers in the game.

Metcalf has been fantastic with the Seahawks, posting 900+ yards in each of his six seasons in the NFL. With Seattle going through some pains at quarterback with Geno Smith, Metcalf didn't quite emerge in 2024 the way that he might have with another signal-caller throwing him the ball.

Smith has since landed with the Las Vegas Raiders, and Metcalf is presumably going to start building chemistry with a new quarterback. Whether or not that is Wilson or Fields remains to be seen, but the Steelers just landed a huge offensive weapon.
