The Houston Texans have fired Offensive Coordinator Bobby Slowik in an abrupt and shocking movie.

Per NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, "A major change in Houston: The #Texans are moving on from offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, sources say, after an up-and-down offensive season. Despite reaching the divisional round, coach DeMeco Ryans hopes for more. OL coach Chris Strausser is also out."

Despite reaching the divisional round of the playoffs, Ryans reportedly believes a change is necessary to take the offense to the next level.

Alongside Slowik's departure, offensive line coach Strausser is also out, signaling a shift in the coaching staff after a season of ups and downs for the Texans' offense.

Slowik, in his first year as offensive coordinator, oversaw a unit that struggled to find consistency. The offense ranked 19th in scoring (21.9 points per game) and 22nd in total yards (319.7 yards per game).

Despite strong individual performances, including Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon's 1,016 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, the Texans' offense was plagued by issues such as subpar pass protection and an inability to maintain a balanced attack.

Rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, while showing promise, was sacked 52 times and threw 12 interceptions, an increase from his solid rookie year.

The decision to move on from Slowik comes after a season in which the Texans struggled with offensive line issues and offensive identity. While the team showed flashes of potential, particularly in their playoff win over the Chargers, Ryans clearly wants more consistency and growth from the unit.

Strausser's departure also reflects the need for a more stable and effective offensive line. The Texans' offensive line allowed Stroud to be under constant pressure, and the team's struggles in both pass protection and run blocking were major factors in their offensive inefficiency.

Despite these challenges, the Texans' strong playoff run—despite falling short in the divisional round to Kansas City—demonstrated that the team is close to competing at a higher level.

The moves to part ways with both Slowik and Strausser signal a fresh approach as the Texans look to build on their playoff appearance and continue to develop their young quarterback and offense in 2024.
