Top Tight End Falls Dramatically in Latest NFL Mock Draft

The NFL draft is just over a month away, meaning mock drafts are running rampant. Every mock draft is a bit different, especially since producing the same mock over and over would be boring.

That leads to some drafts having surprising risers and fallers involving players that consistently get mocked in the same range in consensus mocks.

One surprising faller in the latest mock draft from Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report is top tight end prospect Tyler Warren.

Warren seems like a potential top 10 pick, and seems to never fall below pick no. 14 to the Indianapolis Colts.

However, in this mock draft, the Colts pass on a tight end entirely, and both tight ends fall to the 20's.

Colston Loveland, Warren's main competition for the top tight end prospect, goes at pick no. 22 to the Los Angeles Chargers, leading to Warren to fall to the next team in need of tight end, the Los Angeles Rams at pick no. 26.

Warren is a well-rounded tight end with great receiving ability and blocking ability, making him an asset in both the passing game and run game.

He showed some ability to be used in a variety of ways, including out of the backfield, making him a bit unique compared to the typical tight end prospect.

Loveland feels more like the typical top tight end prospect given his great athleticism and college production, but Warren's extra versatility and work ethic give him a slight edge.

While the young tight end out of Penn State isn't the generational prospect that Brock Bowers or Kyle Pitts were considered at the time of their respective drafts, it would still be shocking if both he and Loveland went later on the first round.

Warren seems like he could go as high as pick no. 7 to the New York Jets, a team in need of any help they can get on offense, so falling to pick no. 26 feels like a massive longshot.

However, not many teams have drastic needs at tight ends, so if some teams pass on both players early, a huge fall compared to expectation is entirely possible.

Seeing Tyler Warren so low in a mock draft is definitely jarring, but with how the draft could play out, it does at least seem a little possible. Either way, whoever picks Warren should get a fantastic player that will help their offense in a multitude of ways.
