Red Bull driver Yuki Tsunoda has been sent to the medical center for precautionary checks after a horrific crash during qualifying for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

The Japanese driver clipped the kerb and lost control of the rear of the RB21. Momentum carried it sideways before he hit the barriers and flipped upside down. Thankfully, the car landed the right way up and Tsunoda was able to exit the car unassisted and walk away from the crash.

The medical car was immediately deployed as it was registered as such a big crash and the session was red-flagged with 12:13 left on the clock.

The fact Tsunoda was able to walk away from the crash was a testament to the safety features, including the halo and the catch fencing. Sky Sports analyst Anthony Davidson commented:

"That is a huge off. Everything has done its job - the catch fencing, the run-off area, the Halo, the helmet itself. Wow."

The session will resume and Tsunoda will start the 2025 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix from 20th on the grid, unless Red Bull's repairs of the RB21 means he has to start the race from the pit lane.
