Spotify Wrapped Reignites Outrage For Taylor Swift Fans: 'Deserve Tickets'

Spotify Wrapped 2022 is finally here, and while most listeners are celebrating their results, others—specifically, upset Taylor Swift fans—are upset.

The popular feature, released annually, provides Spotify users with a breakdown of their listening habits—their top songs, favorite artists, most-streamed genres, etc. This year, Wrapped also gave users "listening personalities" and revealed how their music tastes changed throughout the day. And a select few received video messages from their top artists.

Some users also learned how they ranked among their top artists' other listeners, i.e., whether they were in their favorite artist's top 3 percent, 1 percent or even .05 percent of listeners. Users typically love the information, but this year some Swift fans said the rankings only served as a cruel reminder that they didn't secure tickets to The Eras Tour.

The Eras Tour Ticketing Nightmare

Swift announced her 2023 The Eras Tour on November 1, and the first batch of tickets went up for pre-sale on November 15. But due to a "historically unprecedented demand" for tickets, Ticketmaster's site crashed during the pre-sale, leaving thousands of fans stuck in hours-long queues. Unfortunately, Ticketmaster's website didn't fare much better during the subsequent pre-sales, and the ticketing platform ultimately canceled the tour's general public on-sale. As a result, thousands of fans were left ticketless.

Wrapped Upset

With this in mind, some die-hard Swifties took to Twitter on Wednesday to share their opinion that Swift's top Spotify listeners "deserve" tour tickets. Some also said that those who don't fall into a certain percentage of listeners—or don't have the singer featured in their Spotify Wrapped results—should relinquish their tickets.

"If taylor swift isn't one of [your] top five artists on [your] spotify wrapped, return that tour ticket now," @alizaakhalil tweeted.

"The results are in: if Taylor Swift is not on your Spotify wrapped you don't deserve eras tour tickets," @EmmECarroll said.

"Everyone who gets in the top 1% of Taylor swift listeners should be eligible for free tour tickets," @rachelxtaylors argued.

"Top 0.05% of Taylor Swift listeners I think I deserve free tickets to the Eras tour," @dominicsteynart said.

@waximus442 wrote: "I feel like pre-sale codes for the Eras Tour should've just been given out to people who were in the top 1% of taylor swift listeners."

@ashleeharrrison added: "Rule #1 if taylor swift wasn't in your top 3 artists on spotify wrapped you have to return your eras tour tickets."

The Eras Tour kicks off at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, and ends five months later at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California. Several artists will join Swift on tour, including Paramore, beabadoobee, Phoebe Bridgers, girl in red, MUNA, HAIM, GAYLE, Gracie Abrams and OWENN.
