Stephen King Slams Lauren Boebert

Horror author Stephen King has made a name for himself for calling out politicians online—and now he's come for Representative Lauren Boebert.

Boebert was first elected to represent Colorado's 3rd congressional district in 2020. A rising figure in conservative Republican circles, Boebert has been an outspoken supporter of gun rights and former President Donald Trump. She also owned Shooters Grill—a restaurant in her district where gun owners were encouraged to bring their firearms—which closed down in 2022 after the restaurant's landlords refused to extend the lawmaker's lease.

Now King has told the Colorado Republican to "do some work" after she posted to X, formerly Twitter, asking for President Joe Biden to be impeached.

Newsweek reached out to representatives for both Boebert and King for comment via email Thursday.

"It's time to impeach Joe Biden once and for all. The American people gave us the House to hold him accountable. Let's get the job done," her post reads.

Boebert's tweet comes after the House of Representatives voted to formally open an impeachment inquiry into Biden.

For months, Republicans have been informally investigating the Democrat over allegations that he intervened and benefited from his son Hunter Biden's business dealings with China and Ukraine, including accusations of taking bribes. This is said to have happened while Joe Biden was vice president under former President Barack Obama.

The White House and Hunter Biden's lawyers have denied these allegations, and Democrats have criticized the GOP's inquiries, saying they have not found any meaningful evidence against the president. The inquiry will be conducted by the House's Judiciary, Oversight and Ways and Means committees.

King didn't seem to be impressed by Boebert's statement, retweeting it and adding: "Oh, do some work for a change."

People have taken to the comment sections of King's and Boebert's tweets to share their thoughts, and as usual, are divided.

"Is your job strictly to focus on Biden? Y'all have no basis to impeach him, or it would be done already. You're literally just pandering to the Trump base," one person commented on Boebert's post.

"If I'm not mistaken you were ACTUALLY given the house because you campaigned on lowering costs and inflation. How's that going? Oh wait…" said another.

However, a different person agreed with Boebert, writing: "It's time to charge the actual criminals for their crimes. It's time to make America great again."

People's opinions were split on King's post too, with some criticizing the author and others supporting his sentiment.

"Politicians and the word work seem to me very counter intuitive," one person wrote.

"No one is above the law, Stevie," another said, while someone else added: "Remember Stephen, politics is not your forte."

This isn't the first time that Boebert has spoken out against Biden as the two have often had a war of words. They previously exchanged barbs over the Inflation Reduction Act as the president arrived in Colorado for a two-day tour of the state in November to drum up support for the measure and clean energy investments.

During his tour, he visited the CS Wind factory—said to be the world's largest wind turbine tower manufacturing plant—based in Pueblo, the biggest city that Boebert represents from the state's third congressional district. The company has said Biden's act made its $200 million expansion in Pueblo possible. The expansion is set to be completed in 2028 and will create an additional 850 jobs.

But Boebert, along with other Republican representatives, voted against it, and she has called it "a complete scam."

"I am very proud of the work that CS Winds is doing there in Pueblo and the jobs that they're creating, but as I stated, this will cost the taxpayers overall from the Inflation Reduction Act hundreds of billions of dollars. This bill was a complete scam," she told KKTV 11 News.

A White House spokesperson told the network in response: "If Representative Boebert had her way, Colorado would have lost out on over $5.6 billion in infrastructure projects already announced in Colorado, including over $1 billion for high-speed internet from President Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which Boebert called 'garbage' and 'wasteful.'"

Biden criticized the representative during a campaign fundraiser over her refusal to support the act.

"The congresswoman, along with every single one of her Republican colleagues, voted against the law—and then she vowed to repeal it," Biden said. "She called it a 'massive failure.'"

The president also reacted to a video of Boebert's tirade about the Inflation Reduction Act when speaking with the co-founder of MeidasTouch Ben Meiselas on November 29. Meiselas showed Biden a video of Boebert's tirade on the House floor, in which she says: "This is just another con game by the Democrats."

In response, Biden seemingly laughs at the video.

"If it weren't so important, it would be humorous," he said later. "The only massive failure occurs in her thinking. The idea that in her own district we've created so many good paying jobs. And by the way it's generating economic growth across the board."

The president added: "I hope she comes back here and tells the people in this factory...that this is a massive failure. It's her district. Invite her to come back...tell the folks back home that all we've done to generate economic growth is not worth it."

Update: 12/15/23, 8:29 a.m. ET: This article was updated to clarify that Shooters Grill closed down in 2022.
