Stephen "tWich" Boss, known for being the dancing DJ on the "Ellen DeGeneres Show," has reportedly died.

Boss began DJing on DeGeneres' show in 2014 and became an executive producer in 2020.

The 40-year-old rose to fame years earlier when he was runner-up on the competition dance show "So You Think You Can Dance" and used those dance skills to land several acting roles, including in the "Step Up" film franchise and in "Magic Mike XXL."

Throughout his time on the Ellen show, Boss performed several dances with DeGeneres and his wife and fellow "So You Think You Can Dance" contestant Allison Holker and their children.

His wife and kids were frequent guests on the show, performing dances, announcing pregnancies, sitting on the couch for interviews and playing games.

The family also documented their RV trip across the out west in Las Vegas, NV, Park City, UT and Arizona.

At a stop by Lake Havasu, Boss used a flyboard and wakeboard before ATVing through the canyons of Wickenburg, Arizona.

Boss and Holker have two children together, Maddox and Zaia. Boss had also adopted Holker's daughter from a previous relationship.

On DeGeneres' 61st birthday, Boss performed a special dance and also danced with teen dancer JoJo Siwa when she guest-hosted the show a few months ago.

Boss also participated in games DeGeneres played on the show with guests, including the "5 Second Rule," "Danger Word" and "Never Have I Ever."

In another ongoing segment called "Can tWitch Dance...with what's behind him?," Boss would have to copy the dance moves played on the screen behind him.

Throughout his time on the show, he played this game with many celebrity guests, including Laverne Cox, Jessica Alba and with Jason Derulo, with whom he tried to copy viral TikTok dances playing on the screen behind them

He also took part in other bits on the show, including when DeGeneres waxed him "from neck to toe" on stage for his role in the Magic Mike sequel.

DeGeneres loved to prank and scare both her staff and celebrity guests. In one clip from Halloween 2019, Boss was unphased by a jump scare that sent other employees jumping and falling to the floor.

"You just gotta know you can't trust anyone around here in October," Boss said on the show at the time.

Back in 2015, Boss said his favorite moment on the show was the first time he met DeGeneres when he helped her choreograph a dance to perform on the "So You Think You Can Dance" season seven finale.

"The reason it's so significant is because you hear of the myth and you see 'Ellen,' but until you actually get to be in a room and experience your love—the love you actually believe and put out there, it's life-changing."

DeGeneres surprised Boss with a farewell tribute as her talk show came to an end earlier this year.

She said Boss changed her life and her show and shared an emotional video message to her "sidekick" about how he "always make me smile and laugh."

"He was so patient with me," she said in the video tribute of the first time they met. "We just bonded over learning to dance together."

A report from Los Angeles County Coroner's Office indicates Boss was found dead in a Los Angeles hotel room. The cause of death was not listed in the report, pending additional investigation.

According to TMZ, Boss reportedly died by suicide from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Holker confirmed her husband's passing in a statement to People Magazine.

"It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to share my husband Stephen has left us," she said. "Stephen lit up every room he stepped into. He valued family, friends and community above all else and leading with love and light was everything to him. He was the backbone of our family, the best husband and father, and an inspiration to his fans."

Holker Boss said her husband's "positive impact will continue to be felt" and will continue to honor his memory.

"Stephen, we love you, we miss you, and I will always save the last dance for you," she said.

"RIP Twitch" quickly began trending on Twitter Wednesday morning following the news of his death.

People shared their gratitude for making them laugh with his pranks and antics on the Ellen DeGeneres show and shared clips of his performances on SYTYCD. On Instagram, users comment their condolences under his most recent post, a video of him and his wife dancing in front of their Christmas tree.
