Former President Donald Trump's longtime ally Steve Bannon slammed Nikki Haley as having "no class," and warned that her past will come under scrutiny if she continues in the race for the Republican presidential nomination.
Haley, the former South Carolina governor who served as U.N. ambassador under Trump, has already lost Iowa and New Hampshire to Trump.
Still, she defied calls to drop out of the race and indicated she would fight on until at least her home state holds its primary on February 24. Analysis of recent polling by FiveThirtyEight shows Trump with a commanding lead over Haley in the state.
"New Hampshire is first in the nation, it is not the last in the nation," she told supporters on Tuesday. "This race is far from over."

During her remarks, Haley made jabs at Trump's age, mental fitness and legal troubles and said that she is the only candidate who could triumph over President Joe Biden in November's election.
She said Republicans have "lost almost every competitive election" with Trump, and that the "first party to retire its 80-year-old candidate is going to be the party that wins this election."
"With Donald Trump, you have one bout of chaos after another," she said. "This court case, that controversy, this tweet, that senior moment. You can't fix Joe Biden's chaos with Republican chaos."
Trump slammed Haley's concession speech, accusing her of "doing a speech like she won," and has continued to attack her on social media in recent days.
Bannon, a former White House adviser, said Haley's comments about Trump show she has "no class."
"After crushing defeat, Nikki Haley goes up, gives this phony victory speech and mocks President Trump," Bannon said on his War Room podcast on Wednesday. "You can see in her full glory, the nastiness of what she came after President Trump... with everything President Trump has been through, everything he's been through, to attack him like that shows you how no class she is."
Referring to Haley as "birdbrain," he went on to warn her that her record will be scrutinized in the run-up to South Carolina's primary.
"She wants South Carolina and trust me, they're gonna go through her record in South Carolina and not just her political record," he said.
Newsweek has contacted Haley's campaign and Bannon for comment via email.
Bannon has also questioned why Trump's campaign staff waited to get him on stage in New Hampshire.
He told Newsweek this week that it was a "major mistake" by the Trump campaign. The former president should have immediately walked out when the race was initially called and thanked his supporters for the victory while pledging to win the rest of the states ahead, Bannon said.
