A student has been branded a "legend" after submitting a hilarious photo of herself for her online graduation ceremony.

Ruby Coles, who received an honors bachelor of social work, admitted she wasn't aware her classmates would take the event so seriously.

Coles shared a clip to TikTok on Tuesday, as she filmed the virtual event on her TV screen.

A slideshow is being broadcast, as a voice lists her fellow students, reading out their names as a photo appears alongside their major.

The two women preceding Coles have professional-esque images of themselves, in a classic portrait pose with immaculate hair and make-up.

They each snapped images against a flattering background, while one is even holding a bouquet of flowers.

As the slide changes to Cole, it shows her peering down at the camera, with a screwed-up expression on her make-up free face, with her hair scraped back.

Coles captioned the video: "I graduated university today and they let us send in photos for virtual convocation. Little did I realize everyone would take it seriously."

As her face flashed on the screen, Cole added: "I'm not sorry."

And seemingly explaining the expression she was pulling, Coles wrote: "I'm pretty sure I was actually pooping when I took that."

In the background of the video, believed to have been produced by Lakehead University in Canada, she can be heard giggling as her name is called.

Her clip has proved a hit online, as people praised her for her bold choice of photograph.

Megan Hamm wrote: "Why do I feel like they paused on your picture for an extra second?"

"Well you won't be forgotten that's for sure." Luketok pointed out.

Leila simply said: "Lol so iconic."

Grey admitted: "I would be so proud as a parent."

Mel thought: "I can imagine the person putting these slides together laughing."

Clive Bennett raved: "Literally couldn't stop laughing, thank you, hilarious."

Someone who calls themself TikTok reckoned: "Honestly I feel it's fitting for your degree. I'm sure by the end of a career all social workers look like that."

Viv joked: "The way they didn't even ask if you had a back up."

Shyra replied: "I'm actually crying. I wonder what the person editing the video thought."

Kari A pointed out: "A day you will never forget."

Taylor Stachoski said "absolutely iconic," while Taco Bella simply said "a legend."

Newsweek reached out to Coles for a comment.
