'The Suicide Squad': Is There a Post-Credits Scene?

James Gunn's The Suicide Squad ended with the team getting their freedom after defeating Starro the Conqueror, leaving untold carnage in their wake.

A number of members of Task Force X were killed in the lead-up to the battle, with just Bloodsport (Idris Elba), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Ratcatcher 2 (Daniela Melchior), and King Shark (Sylvester Stallone) seemingly left standing.

But that wasn't the end to the story, as there was not one but two post-credits scenes for fans to enjoy after the main event.

And Newsweek can reveal details of the two extra sequences.

Weasel didn't die in the opening act

The Suicide Squad opened with a brutal, blood-drenched fight on the beach between members of Team Force X and the Corto Maltese army on the beach of the island nation.

Before the team even got to the beach, though, they had a casualty, as Weasel (Sean Gunn) appeared to drown in the ocean when he jumped down from the plane.

Savant (Michael Rooker) declared the creature dead upon arrival, but the post-credits scene immediately following the title card revealed that Weasel had not perished.

The humanoid weasel was seen coughing up water before standing up, running into the Corto Maltese jungle to an unknown future.

Peacemaker was saved from the brink of death by the U.S. government

There is another scene at the very end of the credits, which revealed that Peacemaker had not died as initially assumed.

John Cena's character was shot by Bloodsport when he found him as he was about to kill Ratcatcher 2 for wanting to expose Project Starfish to the world.

And while he was seemingly left for dead in the Jötunheim laboratory, which also collapsed when Starro escaped its confines, Peacemaker was actually saved.

In the post-credit scene, Belle Reve's Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) and John Economos (Steve Agee) are seen being taken to an emergency room to a patient, who was then revealed to be Peacemaker.

A doctor gave them an update on his condition, saying it was a miracle he survived being airlifted to the U.S. immediately after being shot.

And when the medical professional asked what the pair need with Peacemaker, Harcourt said he was needed for "saving the f***ing world."

How the post-credit scene links to HBO's series

Prior to The Suicide Squad's release it was revealed that director Gunn was creating a spin-off series with HBO Max about Peacemaker.

It wasn't clear whether the show would be set before or after the events of the film, but the post-credit scene makes it clear that it'll be a sequel.

Cena, Holland and Agee are already signed on to star in the program, and they will star alongside Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma and Chukwudi Iwuji.

The TV show will air in January 2022, and it will feature eight episodes in total.
