A woman is recovering after being shot several times while attempting to steal a swastika flag from an Oklahoma man's front yard.

The 26-year-old victim, who has not been identified, is expected to recover after she was shot four times while stealing the flag from the property in Hunter in the early hours of Sunday.

Garfield County Sheriff's Office said they received reports of shots being fired in Hunter at around 3:08 a.m. and a woman in her 20s being injured.

The woman allegedly attempted to steal the Nazi flag after being dared to at a party she was attending at a house across the street, reported the Enid News and Eagle.

"On the way back someone hollered gun," Garfield County Sheriff Jody Helm told KFOR. "She dropped the flag at the end of the driveway and shots were fired."

Deputies found suspect Alexander John Feaster, 44, inside his home. He was taken into custody without incident and later booked in Garfield County Detention Facility on complaints of shooting with intent to kill and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

A search warrant was requested for the suspect's home. Deputies found at least 14 guns inside the property, as well as ammunition.

One neighbor, who did not wish to be named, told KOFU that there has "never really been a problem" over Feaster flying the Nazi flags at his home before.

"His flags got stolen a couple times when he first put them out but nothing ever came of it. This is the first time it's ever come to violence," the neighbor said. "He's been out mowing neighbors yards and just smiling and waving at everyone.

"Nobody really knows him," the neighbor added. "He keeps to himself."

A neighbor told 9 News: "No one likes the flags hanging over there but there's not much you can do about it. But I'm not going to judge anyone for trying to go take them down either."

Feaster is also reported to have worn a black outfit complete with red swastika armband whilst out in public.

Feaster is being held at the Garfield County Detention Center without bond. The district attorney will decide if any charges should be brought against the 26-year-old woman for stealing the Nazi flag from Feaster's property.

The Garfield County Sheriff's Office has been contacted for further comment.

Officials said the incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Garfield County Sheriff's Office at 580-237-0244.
