Here's Why Taylor Swift Will Not Be at Travis Kelce's Game vs. Eagles

Fans watching Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs this season have grown accustomed to constant references to Kelce's relationship with Taylor Swift on broadcasts and in coverage of the team (Exhibit A: This article).

Perhaps most notable has been the disparity between Kelce's performance with Swift in attendance versus how he plays when she is occupied elsewhere with her busy schedule. In four games with Swift in attendance, Kelce has averaged 8.5 catches and 108 yards, including his season-high 179-yard game in a win over the Chargers. When Swift isn't there, Kelce has averaged 5.8 catches and 41.3 yards.

So what's the injury report on Swift for the much-anticipated showdown between the Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles? Swift is OUT (performing a show in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil).

Swift's plans may have included a trip back to the United States originally to watch Kelce after he attended her show last weekend.

Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones told Rich Eisen over the weekend that he planned to go out with Kelce and Swift after Monday's game, which (of course) suggested that Swift would be at the game.

But the international leg of Swift's Eras Tour experienced tragedy (and controversy) over the weekend. On Friday, during a punishing heat wave that saw temperatures rise above 100 degrees, one of Swift's fans—Ana Clara Benevides Machado—went into cardiac arrest and later died.

Swift released a statement in the aftermath.

"I'm not going to be able to speak about this from stage because I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it," she said. "I want to say now I feel this loss deeply and my broken heart goes out to her family and friends. This is the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring this tour to Brazil."

The mayor of Rio de Janeiro released a statement as well, calling for Swift's production company to make water more available to concert-goers.

Swift later postponed her show on Saturday, citing safety concerns. The makeup date was moved to Monday, when temperatures were expected to be much more manageable.

The Eras Tour runs for 3 1/2 hours and begins at 6 p.m. Swift wouldn't be offstage until after 9:30 p.m. Kansas City is in the Central Standard Time, which is three hours behind Rio de Janeiro, but a chartered flight would still get Swift to Kansas City long after the Kelce Bowl ended.

So no, Chiefs fans: Swift will not be in attendance Monday night. We would assume Kelce can find enough inspiration to perform well in a Super Bowl rematch against his older brother despite the absence of his famous significant other.
