As a busy nursing student, Elizabeth Manley doesn't find herself baking often, but when she does, she makes a special modification to ensure her dog can enjoy a treat, too.
Living in the Chicago suburbs, Illinois, Manley and her 6-year-old English cream golden retriever Brooks are the best of friends—even sharing snacks together.
"Brooks absolutely loves all baked goods—banana bread, peanut-butter cookies, carrot cake. So, I always make sure he can have some of whatever I'm making. He always expects it, too," Manley told Newsweek.

The tradition began when the owner started baking birthday cakes for Brooks annually. His birthday cake is a vet-approved recipe that kickstarted a passion for dog-friendly bakes.
While she modifies recipes for other baked goods, like omitting chocolate chips, which are toxic to dogs, Manley ensures Brooks always gets a taste of her culinary creations.
After whipping up a batch of cookies for her and Brooks to enjoy, Manley shared their treat on TikTok with a video featuring the bake four days ago and Brooks enjoying his homemade treat. "He always deserves a cookie," said Manley in the caption alongside her adorable video.
Her adorable culinary effort struck a chord online as the video went viral, leaving Manley astonished.
"I typically make TikToks for my personal enjoyment and for little memory videos that I can watch back on, expecting not a lot of views ever," said Manley. "I was shocked to wake up the next morning after I posted it and see it was being viewed a ton."
With over 10.3 million views and thousands of comments, dog lovers were thrilled with the adorable effort.
"Why have I never thought to do this? I've been depriving my poor dog," posted one commenter, while another wrote: "Well, I'm a failure as a dog owner and avid baker. Must fix immediately."
Another viewer added that the dog owner could even alter her recipe a little: "You can add blueberries!" she posted. "Make it look like chocolate chips."
One dog owner wrote that they also make sure their pet gets to join in when there are treats in the kitchen: "I do this with pancakes," commented Devan.
Manley said that, as her recipe is designed for human consumption, she is not convinced it is entirely healthy for her dog Brooks, but added that she doesn't let her pet indulge in baked goods often.
