'Explosive' 'This Is Us' Sneak Peak Shows the Pearsons Heading to the Cabin

The drama between teen Kate and Marc isn't quite over on This Is Us Season 4.

The young couple's verbally abusive relationship was revealed in flashbacks on the last episode of the NBC drama series, during which Marc (Austin Abrams) almost left Kate (Hannah Zeile) stranded in the middle of nowhere in the freezing cold—this after he berated her for not quitting her job at the record store just because he abruptly decided to up and quit.

When the show returns on Tuesday with Episode 14, "The Cabin," the rest of the Pearson clan will make their way to the family's summer house in an attempt to save Kate from what could be a potentially dangerous situation.

When Rebecca (Mandy Moore) arrives at the cabin with Kate's brothers, the family won't hold back on their reservations about her relationship with Marc. This will results in one chaotic episode, according to the show's executive producer Isaac Aptaker.

"It's explosive," he told Entertainment Weekly in an interview released on Tuesday. "Our family is feeling the way probably a lot of our audience is feeling about Kate and Marc, and they're going to get a chance to express that."

While the Episode 14 flashbacks will center on a younger Rebecca trying to save her daughter from a broken heart, in the present, grown-up Kate (Chrissy Metz) and her siblings Kevin (Justin Hartley) and Randall (Sterling K. Brown) will seek refuge at the family cabin as they deal with adult crisis of their own, according to the episode synopsis.

The "A Week From Hell" trilogy, which aired earlier in the season, shed light on what the big three are battling individually in their adult lives (grueling anxiety for Randall, loneliness for Kevin and a marital disconnect for Kate) while flashbacks have depicted what brought them there. On Episode 14, the Pearson siblings will hash out their childhood experiences together at the cabin and hopefully get some clarity on how their past has impacted their present, all while digging up the childhood time capsule gifted to them by their late father Jack (Milo Ventimiglia).

"Things come to a head, some secrets are revealed," Aptaker added.

Now that their mother's mild cognitive impairment diagnosis—and risk of dementia or Alzheimer's disease—is out in the open, Kate, Kevin and Randall will also get some time together to discuss Rebecca's future too.

This Is Us airs on NBC on Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. ET.
