Two police officers were killed and a third was injured while responding to a domestic violence call in Bristol, Connecticut, authorities said.
The Connecticut State Police identified the two officers who died as Sargent Dustin Demonte, 35 and Officer Alex Hamzy, 34. The wounded officer, 26-year-old Alec Iurato, is recovering in a local hospital after surgery, authorities said.
All three were members of the Bristol Police Department.
The state police said the officers had responded to a 911 call regarding a domestic incident between two brothers at a home on Redstone Hill Road in Bristol shortly at about 10.30 p.m. on Wednesday night.

The officers were confronted by a suspect outside the home. The suspect opened fire, killing one of the officers at the scene. A second officer was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to The Middletown Press.
The suspect who opened fire was also shot and died at the scene, according to reports. His brother was hurt and was transported to the hospital, and his condition was not known on Thursday.

A procession of police vehicles escorted the bodies of the two officers who died from Bristol Hospital to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Farmington on Thursday morning, state police wrote on Twitter.
A neighbor told The Middletown Press that she was woken by the sound of gunfire at about 10:45 p.m.
"It was horrible," Robyn Lauzon told the newspaper. "I heard three rounds of 9 or 10 gunshots each."
She added: "It was scary as hell. And the sirens were crazy. It was like a war zone."
Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont said he was ordering flags in the state to be lowered to half-staff in honor of the officers.

"This is a senseless tragedy, and my prayers are with their families, loved ones, and fellow officers," Lamont said in a post on Twitter.
"This is a devastating reminder of the dangers that police officers face every day to protect our families and neighbors from all kinds of situations. These officers are heroes and will always be remembered for the honorable service they provided to their town and state."
Tributes have also come in from other police departments.
"We stand with Bristol and their family right now. We send our deepest condolences and are praying for them," the Hartford Police Department in Connecticut said on Twitter.
