TikTok users took to other social media sites en masse on Tuesday morning (November 1) reporting numerous technical issues and difficulties using TikTok.
Reports of the TikTok outage began to flood social media sites such as Twitter at approximately 11:15 a.m. ET, with users reporting their own difficulties and looking to see if others were experiencing the same problems.
According to DownDetector, the online database that collects reports of issues with various websites and platforms, the issues with TikTok seemed to be resolved within about an hour of the initial reports, indicating that the app was most likely back in working order. This notion was echoed by a report from the Daily Mail, which noted that the outage appeared to only last for an hour.
The Daily Mail report claimed that the outage was centered in the U.K. with users unable to view videos during the outage. Newsweek was unable to verify this, though at least one tweet about the outage appeared to originate from a user in Vancouver, indicating that the problems were more widespread.

During the outage, a few users posted on social media detailing more specific issues with accessing the TikTok app. Twitter user Onyi J-E, posted a screenshot of her account page, incorrectly showing that she had no posted videos.

Another user, India Sasha, whose account boasts over 500,000 followers, shared similar issues with her videos not appearing on her own account.
"Please tell me I'm not the only one and my account isn't being deleted," she wrote on Twitter.

Videos seeming to be missing from account pages appeared to dominate the issues that TikTok users experienced on Tuesday, according to posts on Twitter.
As of 1:20 p.m. ET, TikTok had not seemingly acknowledged the issue in any official capacity. The company's U.S. and U.K. Twitter accounts had not posted about the situation, and its general customer support account, TikTokSupport, had not responded to any recent tweets complaining about issues.
According to the Daily Mail, the issues with TikTok come a day after Instagram went down for about four hours, with some users saying their accounts were suspended for not following community guidelines.
Newsweek reached out to TikTok for comment.
Owned by Chinese company ByteDance, TikTok launched in 2016 and has grown since then into one of the most successful social media platforms in operation. As of 2022, the app boasted over 100 million daily users in the U.S. alone, with its user base notably skewing young, making TikTok synonymous to some with "Gen Z."
