Neon wall art has quickly become a staple for many living rooms, especially according to social media. But this woman's experience may serve as a warning sign for some.

Sydsacks, aka syd on social media, took to TikTok on May 27 to share how her neon wall light appeared to have burned and destroyed the apartment she had only just moved into. Paired with the popular "Oh No," TikTok audio, she wrote: "Moved into my new apartment and my neon sign burnt it down 14 hours later," along with images of the destroyed room.

The video shows a large hole burned into the wall, along with smoke-damaged walls elsewhere and flooding from the sprinklers. Syd purchased the neon light on popular selling site Etsy, from a buyer who she says has over 10,000 positive reviews.

"I thought I could trust this seller and the sign that I was getting," she said, while adding that the seller has been cooperative during the process.

"I fully moved in on Saturday and then Sunday, the next day, I got a text from a few friends asking if I wanted to meet them for lunch really quickly. My parents live in the same building so I brought my dog to them before I left. I left the light on without even thinking about it," explained syd in a follow-up video.

"I texted my friend saying 'leaving now' at 12:40pm and in the official fire report it says that the sprinklers in my apartment started going off at 12:13pm, so that was a nine minute difference," continued sydsacks.

Fortunately for sydsacks though, she had renters' insurance, which she said she has "been very grateful for," after the fire.

"So the fire marshal said he didn't think it was something to do with the outlet but that for some reason the sign got really hot and it caught on fire and then it fell off the wall, falling onto my couch and set the couch on fire, creating an even bigger fire," recounted syd.

"The sprinklers were actually able to put out the whole fire but there was a lot of damage again from the water and the smoke," she added. Images in the viral video show the apartment's walls changed from a white color to a shade of grey, while the floor is drenched with water.
