A woman alleged in a now-viral video that she and a friend were enjoying a date with their sugar daddy when they overheard their waiter "talking smack." Annoyed, the friend "confronted" the waiter, sparking an online debate.

The video, which was posted to TikTok last week by Julia (@jualreadykn0w), has received more than 220,000 views and over 23,000 likes. According to the video's caption, the woman in the video who confronts the waiter is a TikToker under the username @notyurnessi, whose account has since been removed.

"We overheard our waiter and the hostess talking smack about us being out with our sugar daddy so she confronted him," read the video's text overlay.

"By the way, that's my sugar daddy, not my uncle or my dad or anything since you guys are so curious over there," @notyournessi can be heard saying to the waiter, who is believed to be standing somewhere off-camera. At this, Julia laughs as she takes a bite of her food.

The video ends with the two women eating a "free dessert" that was given to them by the waiter as an apology.

As it turns out, being a sugar baby is not entirely uncommon. In 2019, Insider reported that the dating website formerly known as Seeking Arrangement—which has since been renamed "Seeking"—boasted 8 million "active sugar babies."

In 2015, The Atlantic stated that more than 1.4 million college students worldwide, including nearly 1 million U.S.-based college students, represented a whopping 42 percent of Seeking's active sugar babies at the time.

"The latest figures on student-loan debt—now an average of $28,400 per person—are frightening," said the magazine. "As a result, young women across the country are turning to sugar daddies in droves."

Many of those in the comments section of Julia's video claiming to be hostesses or servers came to the defense of the waiter mentioned in her video.

"As a fellow hostess, y'all are way too dramatic lol we are bored & broke ok [obviously] we gonna talk about it," wrote snifflez.

Laine Danielson added: "As a hostess and server, they're talking because they're either jealous or this is the most interesting thing they've seen all shift."

"The talk is bound to happen," said Mia Celeste. "Restaurants are boring and that's exciting to see."

Others, however, argued that Julia and @notyurnessi were in the right to be "annoyed."

In response to Celeste, one commenter said: "She's definitely right to be annoyed that people are talking about her disdainfully. What even."

When another self-identified hostess named Julia said that she, too, would talk if she saw two sugar babies on a date with their sugar daddy, a TikToker named joona replied: "I mean I get it but like at least don't let them hear you."

Replying to snifflez's comment about being "bored & broke," Maddison Arroyo argued that "being bored and broke isn't a valid excuse to talk about someone."
