The ongoing pandemic has made everyday life difficult. It has even kept some loved ones apart. However, one hospital in Texas was able to reunite a longtime married couple who were forced to spend several days away from one another due to the pandemic.

Sterman Young,100, and his 96-year-old wife, Virgie, have been married for 80 years, according to KCBD, a television station in Lubbock. However, after Sterman and Virgie both came down with COVID, the lovebirds were kept apart and were unable to see one another.

They were forced to spend several days apart while both were sick with the virus. Sterman, a World War II veteran, was hospitalized and Virgie was not. However, according to a post on social media from the hospital system, the two were recently reunited.

The couple has been married since eloping on July 3, 1941, in Oklahoma. Before getting hitched, Sterman and Virgie lived on neighboring farms in north Texas.

The happy couple has three children as well as grandchildren and even great-grandchildren.

Back in May 2017, the state of Texas recognized the happy couple for their longtime union. The Texas House of Representatives issued House Resolution 1443, celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary. The resolution said, "Whereas, a 75th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of mutual devotion and shared experiences, and Sterman and Virgie Young of Post celebrated this joyous milestone in their marriage on July 3, 2016."

The resolution goes on to talk about the history of Sterman and Young saying, "Living on neighboring farms in Jack County, Sterman Young and the former Virgie Potts eloped and were united in matrimony in Walters, Oklahoma, in 1941." It continued to state that "while much has changed in the world over the past 75 years, this devoted husband and wife have remained constant in their commitment to each other, and the strength of their love has enabled them to meet life's challenges."

As for any words of wisdom for a long and happy marriage, they said to love each other and stick it out until "til death us part."

It is unclear as to when Sterman may get out of the hospital. Newsweek reached out to the hospital system for comment.

On Wednesday, Texas reported more than 44,600 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases as well as 123 deaths. In all, the state of Texas has had more than 4.7 million cases of COVID-19.
