It's especially important to wrap up warm this time of year, and that's true whether you've got two legs or four. But the only problem for one tiny dachshund puppy is that he's way too small to wear anything, so his owners had to resort to unusual methods.

Whenever people see Rolo, the miniature dachshund, out for a walk this winter, they might wonder what he's wearing around his body. No, it's not an unusual festive jumper but one of his owner's old socks, which has been repurposed into a makeshift coat just for him.

The hilarious moment when Rolo stepped out in his new attire was posted on TikTok (@rolothewiener), much to the delight of his many social media fans. The clip of him wearing "the only thing that will fit" has already been viewed more than 615,800 times and received over 89,200 likes.

While you might think that dogs have ample insulation in the form of their fur coats, that doesn't mean they can't still feel the cold. Dogs with thin coats, such as greyhounds and Chihuahuas, lose heat much quicker than those bred for the winter climates, such as a husky or Newfoundland.

Age and size are also important factors that can lead to a dog feeling the cold, says WebMD, because smaller dogs have less insulation than a larger breed and tend to lose warmth quicker.

As Rolo is only a puppy and so small in size, his fur coat alone won't suffice to keep him warm this winter. Thankfully for him, there's no fear of him getting too cold because he will be "wearing an old sock" whenever he goes out for walks. Perhaps by next year he might be big enough to wear an actual dog coat instead.

The tiny dachshund has developed many new fans since his first video was posted on TikTok in November. Ever since then, social media users have loved seeing how he's developing and growing, but he's still no bigger than his owner's foot.

With hundreds of comments on the post already, Rolo has captured lots of people's attention and their hearts, and some fellow dog owners lauded the sock coat as a genius idea.

One comment reads: "Awww sooo tiny and adorable."

Another person responded: "Why didn't I think of this!"
