'Top Boy' Season 2: Netflix Confirms Release Date — Everything to Expect from Cast to Plot

It has been over two years since audiences saw Dushane and Sully on the Summer House Estate in East London. Thankfully, after a series of delays due to the coronavirus pandemic, Season 2 is almost here and the countdown to the show's premiere is seriously on. When Is Top Boy Season 2 Out?

Netflix's Top Boy Season 2 or Top Boy Season 4 (depending on if you've seen the early 2010s series, now known as Top Boy:Summerhouse), is coming to screens a lot sooner than you may think.

The brand new series will have its debut on Friday, March 18, two years after filming began.

Announcing the news via their social media channels, Netflix posted a video of a huge Top Boy billboard being constructed near London's Southbank. Alongside the image, Netflix wrote: "We know you've been asking for the Top Boy date for a while now... so we put it on London's biggest billboard to clear things up once and for all. TOP BOY RETURNS MARCH 18."

There are 10 episodes in Top Boy Season 2, which will drop on Netflix worldwide in one go, meaning fans can binge-watch the drama in one go.

Who Is In The Cast of Top Boy Season 2?

The entire main cast is set to return for Top Boy Season 2.

This means Ashley Walters will be back as Dushane alongside Kane 'Kano' Robinson as Sully.

BAFTA-winner Michael Ward returns as Jamie alongside Simbi 'Little Simz' Ajikawo as Shelley.

BAFTA-nominee Jasmine Jobson will be back as Jaq alongside Ashley Thomas as Jermaine, Kadeem Ramsay as Kit, Lisa Dwan as Lizzie, and Saffron Hocking as Lauryn.

At the moment, it is not clear if David Omoregie, best known as the award-winning rapper Dave will reprise his role as Modie after he was shot in the street by police in the Season 2 finale.

Additionally, it is unclear if rapper Drake, who serves as an executive producer will appear in the series but fans are for sure keeping their fingers crossed.

What Will Happen In Top Boy Season 2?

Top Boy Season 2 will pick up from the many cliffhangers of Season 1.

Dushane managed to seal a deal with drug queen Lizzie (played by Lisa Dwan), who agreed to become his supplier but in a surprise twist, visited his enemy Jamie (Michael Ward) behind bars. He offered to work with Jamie on the outside, with plans to become the biggest deals in the whole of London. Dushane even went a step further, offering to help get Jamie out of prison after he took the fall for something he did not do. So, will Dushane and Jamie work together, and if so, will it actually work?

Dushane's plans may be thwarted by undercover officers Lee (Josef Altin) and Sarah (Isla Jackson-Ritchie) who had convincingly posed as drug addicts in Season 1, only for their true identities to be revealed in the final moments of the series finale.

Elsewhere, it looked like Sully may have left his drug-dealing past behind him after the death of Jason (Ricky Smarts) but will he stay on the straight and narrow?

Top Boy fans have also been waiting to find out if Dris (Shone Romulus) is dead or alive. He was shot by Sully in the finale after Dris betrayed Summerhouse to work for Jamie's London Fields gang.

Speaking to The Radio Times, creator Ronan Bennett shared Sully's PTSD and emotional struggles will be a big part of Season 2.

He shared: "I remember being at the keyboard, working through after the fire in which Sully barely escapes with his life and his friend gets killed and I was kind of typing away and I put my hand to my face in the way that we're told not to in these COVID times and I remember smelling charcoal on my fingers and thinking about that and just going with that idea that what if that is a sign for him [of the fire] and it's in his head – this smell.

"And Dushane says to him, 'If you can smell it when you sleep, it's not real.' It may not be real to Dushane but it's very real to Sully and I think that helped us just get beyond the idea of somebody who in seasons one and two was quick-tempered and quick to use his fists."

He added: "Certainly we're taking that a step further in the new season."
