Donald Trump Suing Letitia James 'Smacks of Desperation'—Vindman

Alexander Vindman, the former U.S. Army lieutenant colonel and whistle blower whose testimony led to Donald Trump's first impeachment, has criticized the former president after he announced that he is suing New York Attorney General Letitia James, saying it "smacks of desperation."

In a statement on Wednesday, Trump announced he has filed a suit in a Florida court accusing James of conducting a biased investigation into The Trump Organization, suggesting she is unfairly probing "great and upstanding businesses which have done nothing wrong."

The suit claims that James "repeatedly abused" her position as New York Attorney General to pursue a "relentless, pernicious, public, and unapologetic crusade" against Trump, with the stated goal of "destroying him personally, financially, and politically."

"Crooked and highly partisan James now thinks it is the business of the State of New York to go after my revocable trust and pry into my private estate plan, only to look for ways to recklessly injure me, my family, my businesses, and my tens of millions of supporters," Trump said.

James has headed a long-running civil investigation into allegations The Trump Organization inflated or undervalued the worth of a number of assets to obtain benefits such as better bank loans and reduced tax bills.

While sharing a screen grab of Trump's statement, Vindman tweeted: "Smacks of desperation! Love it!!"

Allison Gill, who tweets using the account for the Mueller, She Wrote podcast, added: "Trump says he filed a lawsuit against the NYAG. Does he know that HRC filed a $1M motion for sanctions against him for a frivolous lawsuit? This performative bull**** abuse of the courts needs to STOP. PUNISH HIM."

In a series of tweets, writer Liz Dye noted a number of issues with the "dumb turkey" of a lawsuit filed by Trump, mocking a passage of the legal filings about James demanding a copy of the former president's Florida revocable trust as a "rancid bowl of goat entrails."

Dye also questioned why Trump thinks a local Florida court could have personal jurisdiction over the New York Attorney General on the belief "she's 'illegally'' messing" with Trump's revocable trust.

In September, James announced she is suing Trump and three of his children— Donald Jr, Ivanka and Eric Trump—and two senior executives at the Trump Organization for $250 million, claiming the former president falsely inflated his net worth by billions of dollars to "unjustly enrich himself and cheat the system."

Trump has denied any wrongdoing with regards to the allegations in James' civil investigation, calling it a "witch hunt" and accusing James, who is Black, of being "racist" towards him.

James' office has been contacted for comment.
