Discord's new "Snowsgiving" alerts can be quite irritating if you don't want them activated. This guide will break down how to find the relevant settings in your app and toggle the sounds on or off.
With December now in full swing, many apps are getting into the festive mood with Christmas overlays, end-of-year recaps, seasonal features, and wintery graphics. While this is all good fun for the most part, it can be a little annoying if you just want to regular experience.
This was especially apparent with the latest Discord update, which introduced a shrill message notification that quickly becomes grating.
The popular instant messaging service rolled out its Snowsgiving theme earlier this week. On their own, the visual adjustments here are pretty innocuous, yet they come bundled with a sound pack that has seemingly been designed with the express purpose of driving users to the brink of madness.

If you have been spared the tinny earache, then just imagine the usual Discord alert noises, only they are now a few octaves higher and have the timber of sleigh bells. Some of the alternative sounds are not so bad, while others (like the "Voice Disconnected" alert) are unbearably piercing. Many have even likened it to a startling jump scare.
To its credit, the team at Discord has taken the feedback on board and has now made it so that Snowsgiving is something you have to deliberately opt in for. In other words, you shouldn't be subjected to the new sound pack anymore, unless you have willingly turned it on.
However, there might be some users who left themselves logged into the app prior to this change and still find themselves having to endure the noisy alerts. If that's the case for you (or if you actually want to restore Snowsgiving) then this guide will show you how to customize your settings.
How to Toggle the Snowsgiving Theme in Discord
You can deactivate the entire Snowsgiving theme if you want. To do so, head into the settings menu on Discord by clicking on the little gear icon in the bottom left-hand corner of the app.

Once you have done this, scroll down to the app settings heading and click on the first option you see (which should be labeled "Appearance").
Right at the top of the Appearance menu, there is an option to toggle seasonal themes on or off. Your preference here will not only apply to Snowsgiving, but also to any similar Discord updates in the future.
If you turn the Snowsgiving theme off, this will deactivate the corresponding sound pack as well.

How to Turn Off the Snowsgiving Message Alerts Only
If you happen to like the visual element of Snowsgiving and just want to get rid of the annoying message alerts, then this is possible as well.
To do this, navigate to the settings menu once again. However, instead of clicking on "Appearance," this time you will need to scroll a little further down and select "Notifications."
About a third of the way down this page, you will find a drop-down menu that is labeled "Sound Pack." Unless you have downloaded alternative options, you will only have two choices here, those being "Classic" or "Snowsgiving."
Before you make your decision, you can preview what the various alerts will sound like with each pack activated, by clicking on the little speaker icon next to them.
When you have made your choice, select the relevant sound pack from the drop-down menu.
