Vanessa Lachey has come under fire for her comments about body diversity on Love is Blind, the series she hosts.

The TV host said that body diverse contestants are given a "fair shot" during the casting process for the Netflix dating series but that the ultimate lack of diverse body shapes is due to contestants being "insecure."

Lachey hosts Love Is Blind alongside her husband Nick. The premise of the series is a social experiment where single men and women look for love and get engaged, all before meeting in person.

Now in an interview with Insider, Lachey addressed the lack of larger bodies and those who do not fit into conventional beauty standards being represented on the show. She said that they may not be represented past the "pods" stage of the show because they are "insecure" and "afraid to be themselves."

"Their whole life they've been so insecure about being themselves because of this crazy swipe generation that we are in and this catfishing world that we're in, that they're so afraid to be themselves," Lachey said.

She went on to say: "I wonder if they truly don't have enough time in those two weeks to find themselves, A, and then be themselves to then find that spouse."

While Lachey's comments initially sparked backlash on social media, others are defending her.

"hey @VanessaLachey, wtf is wrong with u? celebrate ALL bodies and if your casting team is the issue - put accountability on them. Love ISNT actually Blind if there is no body diversity!" tweeted Drag Race Canada star Priyanka.

While another added: "I call bulls***, Vanessa Lachey. I could cast your show with all sorts of people without leaving my friend circle. Call me. I dare ya."

Another person critical of Lachey's comments added: "This interview is a hot mess. She's asked why her show doesn't have plus-sized people and her reasoning is they're all insecure and busy catfishing. I need Vanessa Lachey to stop talking."

However, others are defending Lachey's reasoning with Twitter user Vanessa Santos writing: "Vanessa Lachey's comments actually make perfect sense to me. It's because of cast mates like Abhishek 'Shake' Chatterjee. Men and women with 'diverse' body types are insecure because they could wind up with someone insanely cruel -- like Shake."

While another added: "@VanessaLachey you don't have to explain any further. As a non-skinny woman. I get what you are saying. Not everyone can handle the rejection and negative comments. They trash the 'skinny' people imagine someone not confident. Then you would get criticized for setting someone up."

Newsweek has contacted Lachey's representatives for comment.
