Video of AOC Dancing as Protesters Yell She's 'Got to Go' Viewed 1.6M Times

A video of Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a New York Democrat, dancing while protesters chant at her during a campaign event has gone viral.

The video shows the protesters saying "AOC has got to go" while the congresswoman sits on a stage, briefly dancing to the chants, which were accompanied by a drumbeat.

One version of the video, which was posted on Twitter by user Danny De Urbina, has been viewed 1.6 million times as of Friday morning.

Responding to the video, conservatives took the opportunity to criticize the progressive lawmaker.

"AOC and Toby Stavisky both shouted down in one night. Things are not looking good for NY Dems," New York City Councilwoman Vickie Paladino tweeted, referring to Democratic New York state Senator Toby Ann Stavisky. "Guess you can't make the lives of your constituents worse in every measurable way for years on end and not face consequences after all. Go figure."

Conservative journalist Chadwick Moore wrote: "She's mocking her constituents because she's never lived in her district, they didn't put her in power, and she doesn't answer to them."

".@AOC wrecked again - her own constituents keep putting her on blast," tweeted Monica Crowley, who served as assistant secretary for public affairs at the U.S. Treasury under former President Donald Trump. "Fire AOC - vote@TinaForteUSA!"

Tina Forte is the Republican candidate from the Bronx who is challenging Ocasio-Cortez this November in the midterm elections. Forte won the GOP primary for New York's Congressional District 14 with only 1,530 votes, according to Ballotpedia. In a solidly Democratic district, Ocasio-Cortez is expected to cruise to reelection.

Meanwhile, others on Twitter defended Ocasio-Cortez. Some said "people agree with her" while others said those heckling the congresswoman are a "very vocal minority."

In a statement to Newsweek, a spokesperson for Ocasio-Cortez said that the "disruptors at Wednesday's town hall are part of a far-right wing group that regularly protests at vaccine clinics, against LGBTQ rights, etc."

"They were not constituents," the spokesperson added. "We do thank the numerous constituents from Astoria who turned out last night to engage in the civic process. We're grateful that we were still able to have a meaningful dialogue, in spite of that group of outsiders."

Last month, the congresswoman blasted Republican Governors Ron DeSantis of Florida and Greg Abbott of Texas over their tactics of transporting migrants to Democratic-led states to criticize the Biden administration's immigration policies.

"It's appalling that far-right politicians seem to have decided that fall before an election is their regularly scheduled time to commit crimes against humanity on refugees," the lawmaker tweeted last month. "Don't normalize this. Lying to & trafficking people for TV and clicks isn't politics as usual. It's abuse."

Ocasio-Cortez also recently defended the White House's plan to cancel student loan debt after it was criticized by conservatives such as Texas Senator Ted Cruz and Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia.

"Maybe student loan forgiveness doesn't impact you. That doesn't make it bad. I am sure there are certainly other things that student loan borrowers' taxes pay for that you benefit from. We can do good things and reject the scarcity mindset that says doing something good for someone else comes at the cost of something for ourselves," the congresswoman said in August.
