Fans of Harry Potter raised up their wands on Friday to honor the late Robbie Coltrane, the actor who played fan favorite Rubeus Hagrid.
Coltrane died at age 72 in a Scotland hospital on Friday. He was best known for his role as Hagrid in each of the eight Harry Potter installments, starting in 2001's Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone. The films are based on the best-selling series written by J.K. Rowling and have amassed a massive fan following. His death drew tributes from his co-stars and many fans of the series on Friday and Saturday.
A group of fans, some decked out in Harry Potter gear, at Universal Studios theme park in Orlando, Florida, paid tribute to Coltrane by raising up wands outside of the Hogwarts Castle. The park is home to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, an area themed to look like Hogwarts, the mystical setting of the Harry Potter series.
A video of the tribute was posted to Twitter by ThrillGeek and was viewed more than 1.3 million times by Saturday afternoon.
"I'll not be here, sadly... but Hagrid will." RIP Robbie Coletrane. And thank you.

Others held up a pink umbrella, which Hagrid used in the film and book to conduct magic after his expulsion from Hogwarts.
The tribute is a reference to a scene in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in which Hogwarts students raised their wands to honor Dumbledore after his death. Ever since the film's release, raising a wand has been used to pay tribute to fallen actors from the franchise. Fans also raised their wands up to honor actor Alan Rickman, who played Professor Severus Snape, and died in 2016.

On Friday, Daniel Radcliffe, who portrayed Potter, issued a statement to Variety about Coltrane's death, describing him as "one of the funniest people I've met."
"I've especially fond memories of him keeping our spirits up on Prisoner of Azkaban, when we were all hiding from the torrential rain for hours in Hagrid's hut and he was telling stories and cracking jokes to keep morale up," he said. "I feel incredibly lucky that I got to meet and work with him and very sad that he's passed. He was an incredible actor and a lovely man."
Meanwhile, James Phelps, who played Fred Weasley, tweeted: "I will miss the random chats about all subjects under the sun. And I'll never forget in September 2000, Robbie Coltrane came over to a very nervous 14yr old me on my 1st ever day on a movie set and said 'Enjoy it, you'll be great'. Thank you for that x."
