Video footage of a mom and her kids greedily hoarding all of the remaining candy left outside a house for trick or treaters on Halloween has drawn an angry response.
The controversial clip came to light after being posted to Reddit by Mciron95, who expressed anger at the actions of the women and children involved.
"Wife and I put a huge amount of effort into making individual packages of candy," they wrote alongside the clip. "Put out the remainder when I went inside for any stragglers to enjoy. Karen and her future Karen's made sure no one else after got to enjoy them."
Over the past couple of years Karen has become a pejorative slang term used to refer to white women guilty of obnoxious, entitled or angry behavior in public places.
In the video, which appears to come from a Ring doorbell security camera, a woman can be seen with a group of at least three children taking multiple bags of sweets from the basket left outside the original poster's home.
"Take like a lot, take the whole thing I don't care," the mom is heard to say. "I'm taking a lot," one of the children responds, "I'm taking more than the average person."
Having walked away from the house, the woman then returns to the bucket, with one of the girls asking, in a surprised voice: "Are you gonna take all of it?" as the woman begins emptying the remaining candy out.
Mciron95 posted the video to the Trashy and iamatotalpieceofs*** subreddits, where it has racked up over 38,000 upvotes.
The clip sparked outrage among fellow Redditors. "What a thing to teach your kids," ProofDelay3773 wrote. "It's amazing people will sell their morals for $10 worth of candy," FirePun added.
DreamPolice asked: "How much do these people expect to get?" While ProfessionalChampion was shocked at "the audacity for a parent to just try to grab candy like they're a kid."
Peteypeso, meanwhile, commented: "I hate knowing there's really people like this" with FalconStickr declaring: "There is a special place in hell for people who break the honor system."
Mciron95 told Newsweek they posted the video online because they were "infuriated that it was the mother who told her her kids it was okay to take not just some but all of the candy and even grabbed two loads for herself."
According to the Redditor, they had spent several days before Halloween "cutting out individual designs and making covid safe baggies of candy, each had a lil cut out pic stapled to it."
"I was outside from around 4-9 handing out the bags," they said. "I knew there would be stragglers so I left out the rest in the bowl out front. The first people to come up were the group in the video."
They said that it seemed as though the mom on the video "didn't care about anyone else's kids."
Despite the disappointing behavior of this particular trick-or-treater, Halloween 2021 proved to be a memorable one for other scare fans on social media.
One couple ended up going viral after recreating Britney Spears' iconic outfit from the 2001 VMAs, complete with a stand-in for the giant python the princess of pop had draped over her shoulders that night.
They faced some stiff competition for the best costume though from a surprising source, with Steve Buscemi stealing the show on the celebrity front with a brilliant meme inspired outfit.
However, the best costumes came down at Washington Square Park's Annual Parade of dog Halloween costumes.
