Video footage appearing to show a police car peeling out of a Florida parking lot at high speed has been submitted to internal affairs.

The incident first came to light after a clip was shared to TikTok by annaxmarieee. At the time of writing the footage has been viewed more than 224,000 times.

In the video, a vehicle matching the appearance of a police cruiser can be seen exiting a parking lot at high speed while the sound of tires screeching is also audible on the clip. It can be watched here.

At least three sports cars are visible on the footage while the beep of a horn is also heard as the video concludes.

Newsweek has contacted annaxmarieee for comment.

According to News4Jax, the footage was filmed in the parking lot of a store in Northwest Jacksonville on Saturday night during a car club meetup.

They also said that the vehicle on the video appears to match the description of a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office cruiser.

One car club member, who asked to be called James, told the news provider that many of the onlookers present thought the driver must have stolen the car. "They thought somebody might have hopped in the car," he said. "But I don't think that anymore."

While the car in the video did appear to be traveling at high speed, James appeared to have mixed feelings about what he witnessed. "I mean, there wasn't anybody around him, so it's not like he put anybody in danger. It's not a very good use of our tax dollars on the cars," he said. "But, I mean, I wouldn't really criticize the cop particularly."

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office told the news outlet the footage has been turned over to internal affairs.

Street racing and peel outs have become something of an ongoing issue for the residents of Jacksonville. In December, 2021 several sports cars were witnessed doing doughnuts near the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office headquarters while a similar incident was reported at a strip mall in the city.

In another viral video incident involving Florida police, officers in Orlando released bodycam footage showing a man attacking an officer by punching him in the head several times. The officer tried to disable the assailant using a stun gun and pepper spray, but the man, named as James Mossetty, was unaffected by both.

Elsewhere, police were called to a KFC restaurant in Manatee County after a restaurant employee was shot following a dispute over a customer's food order.
