Extraordinary footage shows how a cop fired repeatedly at a fleeing car with one hand, while steering his motorbike with the other, during a dramatic car chase.

The footage, captured by the Israel Police officer's body-worn camera, shows the rider's sightline as the cop stretches out his right arm and unleashes a volley of bullets at the vehicle, which was said to contain two armed Hamas fighters. When the car stops, the cop jumps off his bike and continues firing as he heads toward the vehicle on foot and peers through its smashed-out windows. The two suspects were both "neutralized" during the incident, according to a police statement. Newsweek has not verified this yet.

The video, released by Israel Police on Monday, comes just days into a sudden war that erupted after Palestinian Islamist group Hamas launched a surprise attack against Israel on Saturday. Israel and Palestine have been engaged in a bitter territorial dispute for decades over land that has historical and religious significance for both sides.

The militants fired rockets, breached the border, shot hundreds of victims, and kidnapped scores of hostages. One American military analyst described the sheer scale of the attack as comparable to a "9/11-level event". Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his nation was now at war, launching a series of air strikes across Gaza.

By Tuesday, the death toll had risen to nearly 1,600 on both sides, according to the Associated Press.

Posting the car-chase video to social-media site X, formerly Twitter, Israel Police captioned the clip: "Police and Border Police officers heroically neutralized two armed terrorists outside of Netivot on Saturday. We will continue working on the front lines to defend our civilians from terror." The 55-second clip has more than 345,000 views.

Many X users responded to the clip with praise for the police officer's skill, and several commented that it resembled a scene from an action movie or video game. "That's a John Wick stuff irl [in real life]," one commented.

"Great job and good shot as well," another added. "What a skill, perfect, on running motorcycle," a third posted.

It remains unclear what had preceded the incident and why the vehicle was being chased.

Newsweek has reached out to Israel Police by email seeking further information and comment, and has also emailed a spokesperson for the Palestinian authorities.
