Amy Schumer is one of the hosts for this year's Oscars ceremony and the Trainwreck actress has revealed that her request to include a broadcast from Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky was rejected by producers.

In an upcoming interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, a teaser clip shows the actress discussing how to tackle hosting one of the biggest nights of the year in entertainment during a time of great political upheaval with the ongoing war in Ukraine.

"I actually pitched, I wanted to find a way to have Zelensky satellite in or make a tape or something just because there are so many eyes on the Oscars," Schumer told Drew Barrymore in the clip, via ET Canada.

"I am not afraid to go there," she added, "but it's not me producing the Oscars."

The 94th annual Academy Awards is taking place on Sunday, March 27 and Schumer will be hosting alongside Wanda Sykes and Regina Hall.

When asked about her approach to combining comedy with ensuring she is mindful of current affairs and highlighting important issues, Schumer noted there is "pressure" in finding balance.

"I think there is definitely pressure in one way to be like, 'This is a vacation, let people forget we just want to have this night,' but it is like well we have so many eyes and ears on this show," she said.

"I think it's a great opportunity to at least comment on a couple of things. I have some jokes that kind of highlight the sort of current condition," Schumer explained. "I mean, there are so many awful things happening that it seems hard to focus on which one."

Fellow host on the night Regina Hall has also opened up about how she was preparing for the night and revealed that she called up Whoopi Goldberg for advice. "I have spoken to Whoopi briefly and she's always great and so generous with wherever she can help," Hall told Newsweek.

Goldberg has hosted the four times—in 1994, 1996, 1999 and 2002.

Also noting that the biggest night in Hollywood this year must be sensitive to issues beyond the world of film, Hall added: "On the night of the show we really just plan to have a lot of fun, to celebrate film. Just the fact that we're still here enduring and how film and television has helped us through this pandemic, this crazy time."

She went on to joke: "You can be as prepared as possible but hopefully we have [mistakes] and if we do I'll just get the names so we know who to blame."
