As the days turn into months in the never-ending year of 2020, we're all looking for a little bit of good news to get us by. And a new video of a dog dad and his companion reuniting after some time apart provides just that, while also giving us the perfect reason to celebrate our furry friends and hug them a little tighter.

The dog in question, named Butters, was apparently missing for 12 whole days before finding his way back to his dog dad, and their reunion is the sweetest thing you'll see today. A gif of the moment surfaced on Reddit's r/gifs on Thursday morning, but a longer video shows just how wholesome their coming back together really was.

Butters was found and driven home by his female guardian. As the pup sat in the front seat, his dog dad ran to the side of the car, and excitedly begged the woman to open the car door. The guy couldn't wait for it to be unlocked and he even stuck his hand through a slit in the window to pet the dog wildly.

Upon opening the car door, the dog dad picked Butters up and placed him on the ground. He sat next to the dog and tearfully embraced him. "You stupid f***ing dog, what were you doing?" he questions. Their hug lasted minutes, and Reddit users joked that the dad may be more excited than the dog to be reunited.

There's obvious love from Butters, but some commented that the dog seemed rather calm, especially compared to the man. A handful of commenters called the video "role reversal" since it was the dad running up to the car with excitement; when animals and humans have been apart and are then reunited, it's typically the dog who's jumping and running around in excitement.

When someone asked which party was more excited, one user responded: "The owner. He's [sic] behaves like dogs in other videos." The response was followed up by another user: "And nobody who has ever owned a dog can blame him for doing so."

Butters and his guardian had a deeply meaningful moment, but the video just keeps giving. The family's two children also had their moment of reconnection with the pup filmed, and it's just as adorable.

Other Reddit users shared their own stories of missing animals and exclaimed how wonderful it is to have your pet safe in your arms again after a scary time apart. Users flocked to show love to another Redditor who lost their cat just a day ago, and is wishing for a similar reunion soon.

The user missing their cat appeared to be comforted by their fellow Redditors, some of whom said they've had cats disappear for months or years before returning safely.
