Watch Video Showing Shelter Dogs' Expression Before And After Adoption

A dog rescue charity has melted hearts online after sharing a video of some of their recently adopted pups, and how their faces changed after finding a forever home.

In the viral clip, shared on TikTok in October under the username NWT SPCA, the dogs' faces can be seen changing expression after being adopted—and as one user in the comments pointed out, they all seemed to have gained a smile.

Nothing makes a dog happier than finding a carrying owner that they can love back. Dogs love their owners, and being with them makes them happy.

"Science proves that part of the canine brain is associated with positive emotions and they do, indeed, feel love for their human companions," the VCA Animal Hospital previously wrote.

There are many signs that your dog loves you, but perhaps the most obvious is their excitement to see you. If your dog jumps or barks or gets overly excited when you step through the door, that's because they couldn't wait to have you back home.

The NWT SPCA talked to Newsweek about some of the dogs in the clip. Nero, the second dog in the video, had visible injuries and scars when he first got into care.

"He had quite a tough past, survived despite the odds, and still had the most gentle soul. We were told he was kept on a chain outside for most of his life and was attacked by other loose dogs, without the ability to get away. Understandably, when we met him for the first time, he was very cautious around people and his environment. If you raised your voice too loud or accidentally moved your hands at a fast pace, he would flinch as a learned reflex.

"Regardless of his fears, he still had hope for his future and after time, his apprehensiveness would slowly start to dwindle. After 280 days in our care, Nero found the people he would forever call his. His scars would fade, his mind would steady and his heart would be filled with love. Nero is now living the life he always dreamed of, feeling safe, warm, and loved."

Warren, second to last in the shot, was a dog that struggled heavily with his confidence when he first arrived at the shelter, and it took him a while to open up to staff and volunteers.

"Quite some time had passed before he realized he could trust us, although he would still have certain boundaries with where and how long you were able to handle him. He likely didn't have adequate socialization growing up and this is something we had to work on together. Warren also did not get along well with other dogs or cats, which greatly impacted how long it took for him to find his forever family.

"Over time, he grew to love many people once trust had been built and we had grown to adore all of his funny little corks! Finally, after 590 days, Warren got to meet the amazing people who would bring him into their lives and show him the love he truly deserves. He is attached to his owners by the hip and constantly checks up on them. He even senses when one of his family members' chronic disease flares up and comes close to make sure they are okay. Warren's new family is a match made in heaven and he will forever be grateful they took a chance on him."

Max, the last dog in the clip, was an adoption that staff and volunteers were waiting a long time for and were extremely happy when it happened.

"When he first came to us, he was extremely emaciated, so much so, he didn't even have the strength to stand up. We slowly upped his food intake and he eventually was able to get back to a healthy weight. Due to his past, Max was incredibly fearful of new people, and what came from this fear was the urge to protect himself because that was the only thing he knew how to do. This made Max a very reactive dog to strangers and he was a bite risk to many.

"For this reason, it was extremely challenging to find him a strong, dog experienced owner who understands his unique needs and could manage him safely. People often did not get to see the other side of Max. The wiggly, sweet, and beyond affectionate side that only those he trusted got to see.

"After almost two years of waiting, Max found himself the most perfect home that loves him just as he is. He is now thriving, living his best life on an off-grid mountain acreage with two other dogs he has befriended and his forever family."

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 116,200 views and 5,331 likes on the platform.

One user, mik, commented: "They all gained smiles." And mmeashley said: "If feel like y'all are doing something very right because your pups always seem so calm and content, even in their before pictures. Go team!" tonyapyle added: "Isn't the peace in their eyes in the 'after' is SO amazing?!"
