Prices at the pump in the United States continue to soar since Russia invaded Ukraine, but not all have been affected equally as some states have seen a bigger jump in gas prices than others.
Many states in the country have seen their average price of gas increase by more than 50 cents. From February 7, prior to Russia's invasion on February 24, to Monday, March 7, 38 states and Washington D.C., have seen an increase in the average price of gas go up by at least two quarters, according to AAA.
The state with the biggest jump in gas prices during that time period has been Alabama. The price of gas in the southern state has increased more than 75 cents, to 3.91 a gallon. On February 7, one could have gotten a gallon of gas in the state for a little more than $3.15.
Other states where the average price of gas has increased nearly three quarters in that same time frame include Rhode Island, Connecticut, Delaware, Nevada, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Massachusetts, Virginia and New Hampshire. Of those states, Connecticut has the highest average price, at more than $4.28. Rhode Island, Delaware and New Hampshire aren't too far behind with Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia on the verge of crossing the $4 a gallon mark.
Fifteen other states have witnessed their gas prices, on average, increase more than 60 cents between February 7 and March 7, according to AAA. California, being one of those 15 states, also has the highest average cost for a gallon of gas. Those in the Golden State, on average, will have to cough up more than $5.34 for a gallon of gas.
Two people in California told ABC30, a station in Fresno, that the gas prices are getting out of hand, with both referring to them as "ridiculous."
However, one person who spoke to the station tried to keep the price of gas in perspective.
"It's not as sad as these poor people in Ukraine. They have to worry about sleeping somewhere tonight so I'm not going to complain about the gas prices," said Vickie Herriott told ABC30.

Also, Oregon, Vermont, Washington D.C, Florida, New Mexico, Ohio, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Michigan and Arkansas have all experienced at least a 50 cent increase in their gas prices since February 7, AAA shows.
The average price nationally for gas is now above $4 a gallon. It went over the $4 mark Sunday. According to AAA, the current price for a gallon of gas now stands at $4.065.
While California may have the highest average price of gas, Missouri has the lowest, at nearly $3.63 a gallon.
