House of the Dragon is making its big time jump in its sixth episode, bringing with it a new set of actors to take on the roles of characters like Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower.

Emma D'Arcy and Olivia Cooke are portraying Princess Rhaenyra and Alicent, respectively, after the time jump, taking over from Milly Alcock and Emily Carey. But there are a number of others joining the cast to portray various key roles.

Ty Tennant is one such actor who will be portraying an important character, and the actor will be familiar to viewers because of his famous father: David Tennant.

Tennant is joining the show from Episode 6 as Aegon Targaryen, the eldest child of Alicent Hightower by King Viserys I (Paddy Considine).

In George R. R. Martin's novels, the civil war that almost destroyed the Targaryen dynasty—known as the Dance of the Dragons—begins when Alicent pushes for her son Aegon to take the Iron Throne instead of Princess Rhaenyra, King Viserys' heir.

This means that Tennant is taking on a significant role in House of the Dragon as Aegon will remain a character of importance throughout the fantasy series.

It is unclear how long Tennant will be in the role given he is portraying Aegon during his teen years, and he may well be replaced by an older actor in the same way D'Arcy and Cooke are replacing Alcock and Carey.

The actor is the eldest son of David and Georgia Tennant, and his father is best known for portraying the 10th iteration of The Doctor in Doctor Who.

His parents met on the set of the iconic show in the episode "The Doctor's Daughter," and they married in 2011. Upon getting married David adopted Ty, who Georgia gave birth to aged 17.

Tennant decided to follow in his parents' acting footsteps, and he has appeared in multiple productions including the J. R. R. Tolkien biopic Tolkien, and TV shows War of the Worlds and Doom Patrol.

The actor has appeared in three seasons of Epix's War of the Worlds, and he portrays the character Tom Gresham, the brother of Daisy Edgar-Jones' Emily.

His maternal grandparents, Peter Davison and Sandra Dickinson, are also actors and Davison has also previously taken on the role of The Doctor in Doctor Who, he played the fifth iteration of the character.

House of the Dragon airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and HBO Max.
