Euphoria fans are no doubt still trying to recover from the jaw-dropping ending of the premiere episode of Season 2. Just moments before the episode concluded, an angry-looking Fez (played by Angus Cloud) casually made his way over to Nate (Jacob Elordi), who had become something of a nemesis of his.

Under the guise of wishing Nate a Happy New Year and talking about their resolutions, Fez swung his glass bottle across Nate's head and punched him to the ground, leaving him covered in blood and unconscious for the entire party to see.

Newcomers to the world of Euphoria and some Euphoria fans (after, all it has been two years since Season 1 ended) were left wondering the true reason behind Fez's violent outburst against Nate. His attack did seem to come out of nowhere and he did not indicate as to why he was out to take down Nate. Luckily, Newsweek has everything you need to know.

Why Did Fez Beat Up Nate?

The reason Fez decided to beat up Nate may have had something to do with Nate's behavior in Season 1 of Euphoria.

Fez is the beloved drug-dealing friend of Rue (Zendaya) and the pair have an unbreakable bond. In Season 2, Episode 1, Fez even confessed he would trust Rue with his life and the pair have always had each other's backs.

Back in Season 1, Rue finally realized the real reason Jules (Hunter Schafer) had been avoiding her was because of Nate's abusive behavior and his attempts at blackmailing Jules.

Rue eventually asked Fez to confront Nate, with Fez approaching him and asking him to stay away from Rue, Jules, and their friends.

Offended, Nate was quick to take revenge and informed the police of Fez's drug operation. As a result, Fez was forced to flush the huge stash of drugs he had down the toilet, getting himself into a lot of debt.

Fez was able to repay the money by successfully pulling off a robbery to get the money he needed to pay off the debt to Mouse (Meeko Gattuso).

The last time Fez saw Nate, he threatened to kill him the next time they crossed paths and it looks like Fez at the New Year's Party in Season 2 may have been keeping his word.

Ironically, seconds before Fez attacked him, Nate joked about how the last time Fez saw him, he threatened he was going to kill him.

The promo trailer for Episode 2 of Euphoria reveals a bloodied Nate lying in a hospital bed, suggesting he has survived his injuries. However, the impact and repercussions the attack will have on him is unknown for now.

Euphoria fans have been sharing their reaction online to the twist that many did not see coming.

One fan tweeted: "Fez did what needed to be done now I wanna see what Nate looking like on episode 2 #Euphoria."

A second fan wrote: "now we gotta protect Fez at all costs #Euphoria #EuphoriaHBO" and a third fan chimed in: "LETS HAVE A ROUND OF APPLAUSE FOR FEZ RIGHT NOW #EuphoriaHBO #Euphoria"

Angus Cloud and Jacob Elordi who star as Fez and Nate respectively have also been sharing some behind-the-scenes snaps of them preparing for the scene and during filming on their Instagram feeds and Instagram live stories.

Cloud posted a video of the pair laughing and rehearsing the bottle smashing over Elordi's head, with Elordi commenting below: "don't taste like sugar."

Elordi posted on his Instagram a photo of him in black and white covered in blood for the iconic scene.

Euphoria Season 2 continues Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on HBO Max
