Dog videos bring joy to the internet everyday, and this latest one melting hearts is thanks to TikTok, as one user captured her Wiener dog licking the mouth of its Bloodhound friend.

Posted by Makayla Staats, @makaylastaats, on September 4, the video has since gained over five million views and 700,000 likes.

In the clip, Staats' Dachshund was captured with its whole snout completely buried into the mouth of her bloodhound, as it appeared to lick the inside.

As the camera got closer, the bloodhound glanced up and jumped away, as the wiener dog appeared bewildered.

Staats fittingly paired the video with a TikTok audio which plays a young girl saying: "How nasty of you."

"Owning a bloodhound and wiener dog be like," she captioned the post.

"She is almost in her eye," noted one viewer.

"I gotta say, that is not something I have seen before," wrote another.

"And with that, my life-long love of dogs has ended," commented one seemingly disapproving user.

Dachshunds are known to be extremely friendly dogs and are no stranger to licking other dogs on the mouths but it's thought to be for a variety of potential reasons.

According to Dog Discoveries, as puppies, dogs lick the mouths of their mothers as a way to make them regurgitate food into their mouths and provide solid foods for them. Although the video doesn't show a mother and puppy, the licking is thought by experts to simply be an instinct in them.

While it's also believed that licking mouths can be a sign of showing peaceful intent to a more dominant dog. The dog will lick their mouth as a way to let it be known that it "understands the pecking order" and respects it too. As dachshunds are such small dogs, they may show this type of behavior to far larger and more dominant dogs.

Although experts advise that licking mouths should be encouraged as a puppy so they learn and explore, some dogs may not respond as well as the bloodhound did to being licked, especially if the dachshund is no longer a puppy.

Owners are recommended to look out for this and ensure the safety of their dog, should it be partial to licking the mouths of others.
