During the upcoming weekend, residents living in areas of Chicago, Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania and New York, could experience winter weather conditions, with the possibility of snow.

Unusually cold weather conditions in areas of the Northeast U.S., combined with a wave of moisture flowing from the Rockies has meteorologists forecasting snow showers in different areas near the Great Lakes and will continue to move through the northeast as the weekend progresses.

On Wednesday night, snow covered the streets in northeastern Ohio, but these weather conditions are predicted to continue over the surrounding areas throughout the weekend.

A winter weather advisory will go into effect on Thursday night in Chicago and several surrounding counties. The advisory will begin at 11 p.m. CT Thursday and will last until 10 a.m. CT Friday, with total snow accumulations between two and four inches, according to AccuWeather. Weather forecasters are projecting the heaviest snowfall between 3 a.m. to 7 a.m. CT.

The snowfall in the area will likely cause slippery road conditions for commuters on Friday morning as the advisory urges residents to slow down and use caution when driving. The advisory comes just one day after the city experienced a 50-car pileup caused by icy and snowy conditions.

As the storm continues to move east, meteorologists are also forecasting snowfall in parts of Indiana and Ohio from Thursday night through Friday.

According to AccuWeather, throughout the month of April, Fort Wayne, Indiana, averages 1.0 inches of snow, but meteorologists are predicting that this area could receive a 300 percent increase in the average with one to three inches of snow expected in the area from Thursday night to Friday morning.

As the day advances on Friday, areas in northeastern Ohio, northern Pennsylvania and southern New York, are expected to receive the heaviest rate of snow.

Areas in northern Ohio have already been impacted by snow and winter temperatures, but meteorologists are predicting that these conditions will continue throughout Friday, with the chance of one to three inches of snowfall.

From late Friday to Saturday, the winter weather conditions are expected to move towards more areas in the Northeast.

"We expect several inches of snow may fall mainly on non-paved surfaces from the northern tier of Pennsylvania to the southern tier of New York state during Friday night," said AccuWeather's lead snow warning meteorologist Brian Wimer during an on-air broadcast.

In these areas, meteorologists are predicting one to three inches of snowfall while higher terrain areas in these states could see three to six inches.

Snow is also a possibility in southern Massachusetts on Saturday, but around Boston, AccuWeather meteorologists are predicting mostly rain and some wet snow.
