A woman's dress code mishap at her brother's wedding has sparked laughter online, with her story gaining more than 6 million views on TikTok.

In a video, Alex Hutcherson shared her story, recounting the moment she realized she and her sister had both chosen to wear the exact same color as the bridesmaids. "Had no idea the wedding color was green," she explained in an onscreen caption.

"Well, the wedding was at the Venue 1909 in Topanga Canyon, and as I am walking down the staircase, my 20-year-old sister texts me," Hutcherson told Newsweek.

The text read: "B**** I think I'm wearing the same color as the bridesmaids tf why didn't Kristin tell me to avoid colors. We both are."

Hutcherson explained that the confusion arose from a lack of clarity about the dress code on the couple's wedding website.

"Originally, I planned on wearing a black dress with pink flowers. However, going to a wedding, without any detail on their wedding website, not knowing if it's formal, semiformal, casual, etc., we decided that we would be in it together and made the executive decision to wear semi-formal dresses," she said.

But the moment they arrived, Hutcherson and her sister realized that their outfits were an exact match with the bridal party, and embarrassment set in.

"Immediately, we were so embarrassed," she said. "Thankfully, this was our brother's wedding, and he married the sweetest human being on the planet who thought it was hilarious."

While the bride and groom were relaxed about the mishap, not everyone at the wedding was as laid back.

"The bridesmaids were not a fan," said Hutcherson. "The looks, the comments and the treatment was a little much, but we made the most of it. Just like the TikTok, we stood off to the side to 'sneak' into some pictures and had our side of the family cracking up."

In hundreds of comments, people reacted to the moment, with some even sharing their own similar stories of dress-code mistakes.

"We need to normalize putting the no-wear colors somewhere for guests to view!!!! This is always my number one anxiety!!!" said one commenter. While another wrote: "I did this with a burnt orange. It was literally almost identical to a bridesmaid dress. But how would I have known?"

Hutcherson was surprised at the viral reaction, but said it was all good fun. "I'm just a 39-year-old mom who makes TikToks with my friends and family for our own entertainment. If this helps any bride-to-be or groom-to-be provide any insight to planning their wedding or building their wedding website, then I am happy to have helped," she said.
